SuperStream

Re: SuperStream

It appears he has changed his destination to KBMI.

Current weather at KBMI: Winds 220@16kts, Visibility 10, SCT 10000

He doing good time.

Re: SuperStream

About 20 minutes ago I sent him a text saying WX was clear to the south and he could save about 30 minutes and $1.60/gallon by changing to Bloomington, Indiana from Bloomington Illinois, With Lafayatte and Terra Haute as other options. There's the big turn. That's about $80. Should be good for a couple of beers. BTW, BMG is a great stop, freindly, always cheap fuel and a crew car ride around Indiana University is great eye candy.

Re: SuperStream

I was at the hangar today and the guy in the building across from me was on the roof with a snow blower clearing it. There have been reports of some buckling from the weight.

And it's only Feb 5.

Re: SuperStream

Real neat he was able to cut the corner to BMG. We had considered Bloomington as a direct out of BUF but was clear he needed to skirt further north at least past YIP area.

I hope he had time to snap a few pics for the girls of the 25' snowbanks posted on the BUF NOTAMS.

Re: SuperStream

Hello all I made her home finally after a long day of flying. Its something how we all watch each other on the flight aware. It was a lot of in the snow and pick up ice going into Bloomington and on way out. That is a good stop and thanks Scott for the help. I did want to let everyone know how pleased I was with the streamline. Most of the day I had it dialed back to conserve fuel so was not able to get good comparison till the last leg and sure enough at 6K I was truing 171 kts and if I pushed the prop almost WFO she gained 9 kts. The faring looks great and I love the enclosed beacon. I did ask Jim to do some other things for me and to look over some different areas of the plane and it really turned out well. I would recommend. I will report some more info when I fly some more today I was not really paying that much to detail just trying to strategize on the weather.

Re: SuperStream

I must say that being in Europe it is like starwars to see what you guys have with flightaware and the (xm) weather features...

it was amazing to follow this link, see people in contact with Lonnie and tracking him and watching his progress

Great!!

Re: SuperStream

Hi Ian,

143 does seem slow, what RPM and GPH are you using at 7,000 for the 65%? And what do you see for CHT's?

Hi Byrne,

Yes, all Commanders are eligible for SuperStream.
112, 112A, 112B, 112TC, 112TCA, 114, 114A, 114B, 114TC and 115

Hi Allen,

The SuperStream clinic includes rebuild of the elevator center fitting to restore left-to-right elevator symmetry; and fitting, painting and installation of stab root root fairings; so we figure 2 wks for standard visit.

Hi Alex,

No, our planes are not intentionally rigged for high altitude, it's just that your elevators fly in stream whenever the wing is at an increased angle of attack (approx 4 degrees) because you are climbing or flying at a low indicated airspeed.

Jim

Hi Jim,

A question from down here in Australia
As we unfortunately don't have easy access to your facility we need to consider your Kit for the superstream Mod
Now considering the new AD on Elevators I am looking at the best way to combine the two. I am fortunate to now be flying a 1977 114 that has a Total Airframe time of about 450 Hrs YES 450 so i doubt whether it will be suffering from cracks on the inspection but i notice you are talking about a new hinge bracket to be applied to spars with no cracks on the inspection. What would it cost for a kit that has the Speedstream Mods plus the necessary parts for rectifying the Elevator Spar at the same time if it does not have any cracking to meet the AD requirements at the same time. I would assume it would be far more cost effective this way. Comments ??

Re: SuperStream

Hi Keith,

I could do US 4,900 for the STC kit including two of the RE2 fittings and an SK-110 empennage service kit.

Re: SuperStream

Hi Rob, you picked the right aircraft. Actually I'm not the owner. I'm just lucky enough to be Able to fly it. Gerry, the owner is not into the Internet and chat forums so he leaves all that to me. He has done a wonderful job of restoring it for use and it flies like dream. I think we will both try to attend your next fly in provided it is not at the other end of the country. I have been meaning to give you a call. I may still buy one of my own but I am waiting till I sell a couple of things pay out the bank and see what's left for my retirement. Talk to you soon

Re: SuperStream

Hi Jim, What is the lead time for shipping. I'm just trying to work out I we can get it all done now whilst we do the AD inspection. CASA ( our FAA ) has put a date limit on us to complete the inspection.

Re: SuperStream

Hi Jim,
Well you would not believe it. We carried out the inspection and found a crack on one side 3/4 Inch long, and after only 450 Hrs Airframe time. Unbelievable ! . My LAME says that the Hinge bracket that is on there is totally under engineered and can understand the cracking. Where do we go from here? How quickly can you supply your new hinge brackets ( One for each side?) and what was the fix for the cracks -- I seem to remember a doubler -- Your ideas Please. Pls supply cost and availability of repair parts ASAP

Regards

Keith

Re: SuperStream

Hi Jim I'm located in Syracuse. I have a 1994 114B sn# 14612' How does an owner know if their aircraft will benefit from this mod. Do you do inspections?. Your a quick and beautiful flight from SYR Thanks Paul Carey

Re: SuperStream

Jim; just to clarify, the SuperStream STC may include the spars if ours are cracked? We are planning to inspect ours today or tomorrow, I´ve been waiting to dissamble until we have a final solution in perspective. So I think it´s about time now :-)

For sure, put me in line for the hinges since that´s the least we will need.

Thanks

Re: SuperStream

Hi Roberto,

No, sorry the SuperStream process takes approx 48 hours and the best I can do is to include installation of new empennage bush/bear kit and a set of RE2 fittings. Spar
replacement would be extra.

Jim

Re: SuperStream

OK, Jim, makes all the sense. Thanks

Re: SuperStream

So has anyone completed their SuperStream yet? Any PIREPs?

Dave

Re: SuperStream

08W had the Super Stream completed on July 23rd.

Besides the flight from BTV to home (HWY), I've flown her to ADS and back as well as to CKV just this weekend. While I haven't pulled out my pre-Super Stream info to do a record comparison (I will), I know that she's much faster now -- 7 to 9 knots faster.

I'm seeing consistent TAS between 148 - 151 and IAS is now in the 124 - 134 range. I've taken her up to FL190 and as low as 6500 ft. The tail is clean and straight, best rigging that she's ever had and as a bonus, I've been able to lean fuel flow to between 13.5 - 14 GPH. Have had two TCs, these numbers are just fantastic and I am very happy I bought into the STC at the introductory price.

The numbers being quoted are with 36in MP, 2200rpm on a 3 blade Top Prop (STC). Check Flight Aware if you want to look at the track info they record.

Well done Jim!

Now if I can just talk you into turbo normalizing your IO580 STC for install on a 112TC.....

Re: SuperStream

Hi Steve: Congrats on your Mod. Was just wondering how'd you come up with 36" at 2200. All the charts I have for 2200 rpm, they have 34" as max. I like the quiet at 2200, but I get more vibration at 2200, so I use 2400. Louder, but smoother(I too have a three blade). The best I can get at 36-2400(75%) is about 145KTAS. I'm saving for the superstream one day.

Re: SuperStream

MP is altitude restricted on the engine and I was below 160. Top prop is only restricted when below 20MP. Guess I'm not familar with the chart you are speaking of.
