Flew with my son to Elizabeth Louisiana this weekend to a fly-in at W.C. Field. W.C. Field is a private, 2500' grass strip in southern Louisiana owned by an A-36 / Gruman owner.

Throws a great party each fall and the weather was perfect this year. Todd and his wife, Halley host the event complete with great home-cooked food (this year we had alligator gumbo Friday night, and BBQ Pork & Brisket on Saturday) They are up to start making fresh biscuits, Bacon & Eggs each day at 6:00am. Saturday night there was a live band, all the beer, wine and soda you can want, and a fireworks show.

A great time... about 45 planes at the peak on Saturday afternoon, 20 camper/trailers, and there were around 20 of us "camping under the wing" for the weekend.

Sure would have liked to see another Commander represented but alas, 297J was the only "great plane" there, (other than two WWII era steerman's)

Re: Random Fly-in Notes

Looks and sounds great Byrne!

Looks like great fun!

Re: Random Fly-in Notes

Are there going to be any Commanders at Reklaw this year? Spent the day over there today helping Dave get some last minute projects finished... There were about 10 of us there today. They have the strip in GREAT shape and all the parking areas are mowed and ready. Should be a great weekend. Slight chance of rain on Friday it looks like now.

If you live here in the South (Texas, Louisiana, OK, Arkansas, or Mississippi, it's worth the trip. For those of you who don't know what the Reklaw flyin is... Check out their web site..... http://www.reklawflyin.com/

Re: Random Fly-in Notes

I've been waiting on Reklaw for two years, unfortunately it coincides with our annual saiboat race this year so will miss it again...maybe next year! Have a great time!

Re: Random Fly-in Notes

Byrne Greg and I will be flying to Reklaw in the LSA's this weekend. We plan on arriving on Friday Afternoon and leaving out on Sunday and planning on doing lot of flying in between. Look forward to seeing you there.

Re: Random Fly-in Notes

Great Lonnie, looking forward to seeing you and Greg there. I'm going back over in an hour or so to help finish up a few items that still need attending to.... I'll probably get the camp site set up as well today and come back home. (only a 20 minute flight)

I too, plan on being in the air a lot over the weekend.

Where are you camping by the plane or camper

Re: Random Fly-in Notes

I have my tent right by the plane, of course, Lonnie. I haven't figured out how driving to a "fly-in" with a camper is more fun than flying in and camping. Love those grass strips.

Re: Random Fly-in Notes

Got to see Lonnie and Greg at Reklaw. Lonnie is is Rans and greg in the Commander. It was great to see another Commander show up.... Until Greg & Lonnie came over it was "other planes 500... Commanders 1"

Great time even though the weather was less than ideal but when your watching 500 GA planes land on a grass field in the space of a few hours, Including but not limited to a Beach 18, Caravans, Barons, Twin Commanches, too many cubs & various cessnas to count, T6's, etc... etc... etc.... The cold doesn't really bite that much.

I think Lonnie and Greg may chime in as Reklaw is unlike any place on earth for flying in.

Is the orange bi in the low pass, the same one that ended up inverted in the dirt later?

Re: Random Fly-in Notes

I'm not sure but I don't think so. I believe the plane that flipped was just coming in.... I don't recall swing him before and the other stardusters doing the side by side passes were still doing flybys after the orange one flipped.
