Well, I am the proud new owner of a 1995 Commander 114B! This is a great airplane with 1874TT and all orginal paint, interior, and panel. It is in great condition. I flew it down from Islip NY to NE Texas last Friday. The flight went great and I had the time of my life.

Thank you to Judi Anderson for making this happen. She is an unbelievable asset to this owner's group. This transaction would not have happened without her help.

Also, Greg Walker in Tyler was a great help as well.

My initial plans are to focus on the panel. It is in dire need of an upgrade. Plans are to with a GTN 750, GTX 345, and a new audio panel.

The plane few great from NY and I am leaving Sunday for OshKosh. Should be alot of fun shopping for some avionics ideas there!

Re: New Commander 114B Owner

Welcome to the group, Stephen! Glad you had a great experience with Judi (so did I), as well as a superb flight home. Have fun shopping!!!

Re: New Commander 114B Owner

Thanks Stephen, but we also need to thank our KISP fellow COGger Frank, and his wonderful Maintenance Shop Centerline for coordinating all the work for us.

Re: New Commander 114B Owner

Just arrived in Madison this afternoon from Texas. My son lives in Madison and we will be going to OshKosh from his house and then later in the week we found some hotel rooms in Fon du Lac.

Had two very long trips within a week - Islip NY - Gladewater TX and now Gladewater to Madison WI.

The plane flew great and we made great time despite some headwinds coming up.

I must say the King KLN 90B takes some getting used to - I am reliving my youth. I do miss my Garmin 430 in my other plane. My 90B also seemed to lose a heading - I had to uncouple the AP and just fly a heading off of my tablet. Other than a wandering GPS, the plane is great. I do plan on upgrading the panel in the very near future. That is part of my task at OshKosh - I have some shopping to do.

This airplane is great and I am extremely happy to have bought it. I am looking forward to meeting up with some of this Commander group at OshKosh.

Re: New Commander 114B Owner

Welcome Stephen. I am with you, as I upgraded my 114B panel last year with a GTN750, GTX345R, Aspen Evolution Pro 1000 and Flightstream 200. I love it. In the next year or so I plan to eliminate the vacuum system and have all glass electric back-up. Reach out if you have any questions. Hope to see you in Augusta for the fly-in.

Re: New Commander 114B Owner

Here is a real short video I shot on the way to OshKosh yesterday (Monday) from Texas. This is over Central Arkansas.

Re: New Commander 114B Owner

Looks like a beautiful day for a flight.

Re: New Commander 114B Owner

Got all sorts of Commander people in and around North TX. If you need an avionics shop in Dallas let me know, I've spent money in most of them, I think :D.

I may....my King KL 256 Flight Director crapped out on me yesterday on the way home from OshKosh. Luckily not until over Arkansas. Not pleasant not having a working attitude indicator OR autopilot going in and out of IMC all day. Thankfully, the panel has a backup Attitude Indicator, although it is all the way over in front of the right seat. Not pleasant doing a scan with the Attitude Indicator all the way over there!

At least the Commander was very easy to hand fly in the clouds!

Re: New Commander 114B Owner

+1 for Autopilots Central, Tulsa OK -- I called and worked with them and they were great. It was my HSI, much more simple, but, through talking with them and planning, they committed and delivered to turning me around the day I flew in. They were great!

Mine never worked. On the Bs/TCs it runs from the STEC55 flight director (assuming you don't have a KFC200 or 225?) and mine had the wrong flight director installed when I got the airplane. Some are for Bendix, some are for Century HSIs, and some are for Collins HSIs. Different data formats.

When you get modern glass panels that have synthetic vision flight directors are kinda silly anyway. No need to look at wiggly bars when you can see the ground on the panel as if it were a bright sunny day outside.

If it winds up being the HSI, don't pay to overhaul it, just buy a used one. With everyone getting glass panels these days every avionics shop out there should have a healthy stock of King HSIs and attitude indicators.
