Hello to all. My name is Joe and I live in the Minneapolis area. I have just purchased a 1975 Commander 112A that had a prop strike incident a little over a year ago, with hopes of making it airworthy again...... hopefully without going broke! I have long admired the type and knew I would own one someday and after about a decade hiatus from aviation, I bought this project. I'm happy to see an active owners group and look forward to getting to know this community.

The incident, as reported, is that after a normal landing while going down the runway, the right main gear collapsed and caused the right wing to contact the runway, which caused the aircraft to veer right into the grass which caused the nose gear to then collapse and a prop strike ensued. The aircraft had the 3 blade Hartzell prop STC. I will be in need of some parts, so if anyone has serviceable parts or parts that can be made serviceable, I would greatly appreciate any such opportunities. It would be great to put a 3 blade back on it, but I can only assume that the more likely scenario is that someone may have a two blade prop they removed when installling a new 3 blade...... I would be open to any serviceable prop for it. Alternatively, I have found a servicable hub for the two blade set up at a good price, so potentially interested in purchasing just blades if someone has them. The right wing damage looks to be repairable and that is the route that I will probably go, unless anyone has a right wing they would like to sell. The previous owner removed all the radios, but left the trays. If someone has a serviceable GNS430W I might be interested in it. The nose gear doors are damaged so I would be interested in a set of those as well. The lower cowling is damaged but looks to be a straightforward repair, but if someone has a lower cowling I may be interested in that. The plane is in south Florida and I am currently trying to decide if I try to make it airworthy where it sits or disassemble for transport. If anyone knows an A&P in south Floriday who may be able to assist, I would appreciate any referalls. The engine is mid-time with good compressions..... Hoping to avoid a major overhall right out of the gate if I can, I would welcome opinions on best course of action

Thanks,
Joe

Welcome to the group. I would haul it home as it will be a lot bigger job than you are estimating. A DIY haul on a gooseneck trailer would be most economical, I studied wing removal during a visit to BAS in Colorado and decided that it was a lot easier than I anticipated as long as you are prepared.

Be sure to add your information , such as serial number, in your posts as a lot of parts are serial number specific....After you determine the parts needed and the availability and costs involved it may wish to consider parting it out.

Life is a barrel or fun.

Ken

Thanks Ken....
I have been already trying to sort of determine economic feasability of fixing VS parting out and just buying a flying airplane. I appreciate your input on hauling it back, I have already begun to lean that direction.... The registration number is N12RX, and it is serial # 270

Joe welcome to the group. I am sure you have your hands full with this project, but I am sure you get that airplane back in the air in no time. I would probably transport to a place where you can work on it rather than "doing it from a distance", you know?

Do a search on ebay for some of the parts. The landing gear doors will be there if they are not, RCM Normalizing - Commander, Aircraft, Aircraft Parts and Supplies should have one.

Thanks Marcos. I believe you're right about transporting it home rather than trying to make her airworthy where she sits is going to be the right play.

Hello Joe, welcome to COG and Commander ownership. You ended up in the right place for help and guidance. We have a 1972 112A so if you need any information or otherwise please reach out. Ditto on the sage advice above.

Welcome Joe, where will you base your new purchase?

Hi Rolf,
I'll be based at KMIC in Crystal. I live in Mound so it looks like you and I are almost neighbors.
