All,

I bought one of Carl's MT props just before the fly in. I did not get a chance to install it for that event. I now have about 12 hours on it and want to offer a brief report.

1- Take off roll MAY be a bit better. Its not worse, but I cant say I notice much.

2- Climb. At THIS point I feel it does climb much better. Even at gross I seem to be getting 100-125 FPM additional at least. I will say I have the boost and rpm set right at the maintenance manual limits.

3- Speed is about the same, no surprise there.

4- The quality is fantastic. It looks much better than McCauley. They are great props, but this is really nice piece. Much better machining.

5- Weight is definitely lighter and you can feel it in trim.

6- Looks. I do really like the looks. I wish they had a better "polished" offer for the spinner, but I am starting to like the white.

7-Now The most amazing thing is how quiet and smooth it is. I occasional fly a turboprop and I think this is probably 90% as smooth. I dont know that the DB level change was, but its MUCH quieter in the aircraft.

Nice looking setup,
How did you get the tiny windsock to mount on the vertical blade???
:D
Sorry, know that was bad . . :o

Hey, what is the diameter of that setup??

Cool looking. The colors actually matches that of your airplane.

It looks really nice - thanks for posting - it's a ways down the road before I can think about it, avionics and paint first (i keep telling myself that over and over and over) LOL

The smoothness and noise reduction are the first things I noticed. I am seeing more performance benefits over the "run out" two blade Hartzell that was on my plane when I bought it in March. And I do see a few extra kts above 12,500.

And the engineering really is fantastic.

Is it 114 only? The MT prop is only STC'd for the 112, not the TC. So I'm perusing the market for props that have been replaced by the MT.

Re: MT prop from Carl L

Ray, your only choices are the Hartzell 2-blade and Hartzell 3-blade. The same 3-blade is used for 112 and TCs, but STC number is different.

Carl showed a little interest in trying to get MT to certify the TCs also, but would take a volunteer aircraft and MT interest. Sure it would be same prop used on 112s.

I, too, would like to upgrade, but not sure I could justify it now. Too many other needs. Carl does sometime have / know of used 3-blades available when he sells MT to 112 owners. You would have to buy STC paperwork from Hartzell too.

Good luck,
Alan

Re: MT prop from Carl L

If anyone has interest in my prop I would be happy to talk to them. All it does is take up space in my hanger. TT is about 1900 and TTSOH is about 600. Those times ar not exact, but close.

Re: MT prop from Carl L

After a few long flights I can say the prop is really worth it if you fly long distances. The noise and smoothness are amazing. I am confident I am seeing +100-125 FPM in climb. As far as overall speed I cant say its faster. I do feel because of the smoothness it seems easier to fly it a bit faster.
It seems like I can lower the FF a bit for the same % of power. I think this may be something to do with the lower vibration or better airflow off the root of the blades.

Thanks Alan. I figured that was the case.

Hi Ray,

I'm working with MT to see if I can offer a $500 discount for the Holidays. If I can get things worked out with them, I'm going to send postcards out offering it to the entire fleet.

There might be someone out there with a 3 blade Hartzell that will want to take advantage of that. If I hear of anything, I'll let you know.
