Hi,
As I await my new MT governor, I am aware that the cable mount brackets for the mixture and governor controls may have to conform to a different bolt pattern. Does anyone who has the MT governor installed have a photo they would like to share of their installation?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Sorry, forgot you were looking for this. I'll try to get it to you this week.

Re: MT governor on 112A- anyone have install photos?

Resurrecting this- I have my prop and governor, and as I suspected the bolt pattern is different on the MT. This affects the prop cable bracket and the mixture control bracket. I"m interested to see how others have resolved this. Link below to a possible replacement from the experimental world that might work as an owner fabricated part.

https://showplanes.com/ecom-prodshow/Propeller-Governor-Control-Bracket.html

Clunky/ugly solution is to redrill existing brackets and use large washers.

Best option might be to measure and re-fabricate the current brackets, but that will exceed the capability of my harbor-freight sheet metal brake.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ken

Re: MT governor on 112A- anyone have install photos?

For anyone else thinking of doing the MT Governor, here's my solution (IA blessing pending):

Purchased a cad-plated steel bracket from Showplanes ($35):

https://showplanes.com/ecom-prodshow/Propeller-Governor-Control-Bracket.html

This bolts directly to the MT Governor and allows the original prop cable and bracket to fit perfectly. Then we have to handle the mixture cable. For this I used an old 46388-5 (Commander 112 throttle cable bracket) I had on hand. The last image below goes to a video if you click on it.

Thanks for sharing the updates Ken. That bracket from Show Planes is a nice find.

I see a little flex on the bracket in that video - any concerns with that? It appears you're routing the mixture cable behind the bracket and on the original setup it is in front.

I'm working with MT to develop a bracket also, so when you order an MT governor for a Commander the bracket comes with.
Also talking to them about approving them for use with Hartzel props.

Hi Glenn,
My new bracket does route the cable in front of the governor bracket, rather than behind. I have looked at the behaviour of the 46388-5 bracket in the standard application (attached to the bottom of the 112A airbox supporting the throttle cable) and it does indeed flex in the same way- likely by design.

I'll take a photo tonight from beneath- this setup has the ball joint driving the mixture arm 15-20 degrees out of plane, which approaches the limits of the ball joint. Ideally the bracket would have the cable mount holes almost parallel with the holes on the flange to the prop bracket so that the ball joint could attach to the outside of the mixture arm. I'm looking at fabricating one of those, but lack the tooling for the bullnose bend.

The good news- I have found a stash of the 46388-5 brackets at a reasonable price.

Regards,
Ken

Carl - It would be great if they were willing to do the work to get their governor approved to work with the Hartzell props. As you know I'm also working on a governor solution with APS. The advantage they have is their governor is already approved for our specific IO360 engine model. We're just working on the bracket.

We also need to keep in mind that there were at least (2) variations of the prop bracket for the 112s with a service bulletin being released to permit upgrading of the earlier design to the improved setup.

Some interesting notes in SB-112-65 about maximum angle coming out of the clamp. I've attached a copy if anyone is interested.

Hi Glenn,

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was speaking in terms of the positioning from the cockpit.
Probably should have said the stock setup has the mixture cable on the firewall side of the prop bracket.

Hi Glenn,
I got ya- basically I switched the path of the cable relative to the governor bracket. Originally firewall side, now engine side.

Cheers,
Ken

Can someone supply Part Number for this MT governor?

P-860-5 I Can get you a great price on one of them, and they will work with a Harzell prop, but they're not approved for use on our airplanes except with an MT prop.

I have a good Edo air core I can sell you for around 700 - it might not even need rebuild - was working when removed, if you need it.

You sure on that Carl, if I recall correctly (at least for the one used for the 114} the governor wan not an STC part but merely an PMA part that was a universal - it was an initial head scratcher for the A&P and the IA but they eventually signed the 337.

Hmm, good question. I thought it was also mentioned on the prop STC - no?

I saw a Partenavia in Santa Fe a few years back that had MT governors, and Harzell propellers on it. Partenavia's have the same engines in them as the 112TC - they said swore it was legal without an STC, so maybe?
