I am pleased to announce that the 2011 Sedona Fly-In Registration Site is now active. To access the site and register for the Fly-In, click on the Sedona Fly-In Banner on the home page. Please note that the deadline to register at the reduced rates is August 19, 2011.

I'm also delighted to announce that our Keynote Speaker for this year's Fly-In is Aviation Pioneer Dick Rutan. Please read his biography and list of personal accomplishments and awards on the Registration Site.

As this year's Fly-In Coordinator, I hope you are as excited about this event as I am. Sedona offers a variety of sightseeing and other activities unique to this part of the country, suitable for all members, their spouses and guests. Watch this site for future information on a tour of the Grand Canyon, Pink Jeep Tours, Shopping, Golf, Workshops and Seminars, and more. In fact, this is such a popular destination, many are planning this as a mini-vacation and arriving a few days early.

And as a special treat, the Sedona Airport will be hosting a vintage aircraft and car display, and winefest on Sept. 24th and 25th.

Please plan on joining fellow COG members and friends for this spectacular event. I look forward to seeing you then.

Major "WOW" for landing Rutan. Way to go, Vince.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Sounds like an awesome weekend. May have to be commercial for me though.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

There is a shuttle bus from PHX Sky Harbor to Sedona.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Thanks Vince, for what is looking like a terrific fly-in! I'll be signing up...can't resist landing "the bluff".:)

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Sept is still the off season in Phoenix and rental cars are quite reasonable. I personally would rather have a car for the weekend rather than take the shuttle.
See attached rates from rental cars .com

Reserve one early.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

We have secured a timeshare for the whole week in Sedona. We are looking forward to
meeting everybody.

Note the new Sig. We are now based out of KSIY, Siskiyou County CA.
Finally retired.. at least for now.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

We are also planning to stay the entire week.

As we've done in the past, hopefully we can have get a group or two together for some sightseeing and R&R prior to the official events. Heather and I want to do the train ride into Grand Canyon amidst other fun. Spectacular golf for those of you interested - Pete, do we have a tournament this year?

If you've never flown into Sedona make sure you don't miss this opportunity even if you can only attend on Saturday. It's a spectacular flight from almost any direction. And Dick Rutan should be a fascinating speaker Saturday evening.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

There's a few of us arriving early in the week, as well. Robin Lee is organizing a Grand Canyon Tour on Wed. the 21st. Her contact info. is on the website.

Pete's hosting the COG Annual Golf Classic on Thurs., the 22nd and there is a "Shopping" event scheduled at Tlaquepaque Village for the LOCO's, that same day.

The popular Pink Jeep Tour is scheduled for Friday, the 23rd, as well as Pete's famous mini-golf tournament at 9:00am at the Resort's Executive Golf Course.

All this and more is listed on the website, and the Saturday schedule of seminars will be posted there soon.

And that's not to mention the opportunities for mini-Fly-Outs to the casinos at Laughlin, NV (KIFP) on the Colorado River, or Lake Havasu (KHII).

Of course, our members and guests are free to explore Sedona and the surrounding area on their own, if they prefer.

Let the games begin!

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

A lot of us on Thursday and Friday have enjoyed "Fly-outs." Is there a good local, or we could hire one to ride with one of us, who could lead us on a couple of airstrips that we otherwise might miss? Say, within 45 minutes, 1 hour at the most. I would be up for that. Last time a few of us flew to Canyon de Chelley, and that was a spectacular trip.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Round trip to Monument Valley Utah is a little over two hours. Runway is UT25, Dirt and uphill, but one could fly up there, do some sightseeing and return with plenty of reserve.(landing optional)
It is one of the most scenic places in the US.

I'm sure some of our local AZ pilots who are more familiar with the area than I will chip in here. The flight fm SEZ north-west to IFP however, is relatively simple with a Sectional, as is SEZ south-west to IFP. Each flight is approx. 1 hour in our Commanders.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Joel: since you are a local, have you ever been to Needles Outpost (UT59)? SW Aviator did an nice article, thought I might stop on way from Sedona.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Bob

Never been there. Nothing comes up for UT59. Doing some research , I found reference to it in Cirrus for duats. It is listed as Monticello UT. Searching for Monticello in Aopa's database got me to U43 which now shows permanently closed on the AOPA site.
