Hi all,

G-BFPO is an official Hotshot now.
The first of its kind in UK.
Everything took a bit longer than expected.
Thanks to Carl and of course Robin.

Last Friday I had my first flight up to FL160.
Gives a new perspective on flying.

OAT -26C, the heating needs some tweaking for sure.

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Very nice Markus. Congratulations!

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Hi Markus,

That's great!

I have many improvments planned for the Hot Shot program including a more efficient heat exchanger, so I should be able to help you out with that soon.

Happy flying,

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Super Markus!!

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Markus,

There is a lot to learn about the Hot Shot that is not written down. After owning mine for six years I learned something new.

Lesson #1.
When flying at 16,000 feet, with the oxygen canules up your nose, and a boom mike in your face, It is very difficult to eat fried chicken. I hope you don't have a beard.

Lesson #2.
Carry a couple of Pee bottles and drink plenty of water when on oxygen, or you will lose your voice. When ATC calls you will sound like a sick Mickey Mouse.

Lesson #3
Be sure to carry the hotshot repair kit in one of the seat pockets.

With the help of other Hot Shot owners I could write a book.

I have made so many mistakes with my Hot Shot that I am willing to share with new owners.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Ken,

Thanks.

#1: no worries, I tried with a peppered steak pie and it works.
#2: are you sure you put oxygen in your cylinder, not helium?
#3: What is a hotshot repair kit???

I will do some flight tests and get some performance and fuel consumption figures.

I have some ideas to improve the current heater.

Markus

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Now there is one fewer "B" model on the UK register, does that make mine more valuable?:)

Looking forward to seeing it in Troyes in April.

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Thanks Lawrence, I changed my profile now

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Congrats Markus !

I wish you many enjoyable Flights and save Landings.

But please watch the Freezing Level on the Kontinent this time of the year.

Enjoy and i hope to see you in Aero 2013

#3: What is a hotshot repair kit???

This is an extra set of turbo intake and exhaust gaskets. In case you ever have to have the turbo removed/serviced when you are out of town. I'll send some to you, but they can also be ordered directly from Rayjay.

Re: UK's first Hotshot

And speaking of exhaust gaskets- I learned years ago to carry an extra in addition to 'the set'. On my 112TCA One gasket doesn't always seal tight the muffler to turbo elbow downpipe connection even when the clamp is full tight (could still twist the muffler).

You don't have to worry about that with a Hot Shot.

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Congratulations Markus. I think you will find your aircraft speeding around at altitude and enjoying every bit of it. The Hot Shot is a true marvel to the Commander. I found mine to be a bit on the cold side, and in winter I had a real difficulty flying mine in Norway.
I hope your process getting it EASA approved was easier than mine :D

Re: UK's first Hotshot

It was easy to get it approved as you and Robin did all the work at EASA.
Heating is a big issue for me. It has to do with the design of the heating system.
The hot air has contact with the outer skin just before it enters the cabin. With -35C outside no heat will arrive.

Re: UK's first Hotshot

Hi All.

On 82J Sven put on an extra set of thingymibobs to double the output of the heater, this was for Northern weather so we removed them when she came to South Georgia. I have the parts to be copied. Not really sure of the details.

Frank or Bill may know more details.

Life is a barrel of fun.

A new heat exchanger design is on the way.

G-BFPO is no more. I reregistered her to D-ELPO and sold it last year..
This morning the new owner flew it into an Austrian mountain.
4 Fatalities

So sorry to hear that, my condolences go out the the families. While we all want to know what happened, this is not the time to ask.

So sad,

Ken
