Re: UK Commander Get together

Sorry for keep dropping these messages in but I just want to keep everyone informed.

I have had this email from Glen Moreman at Kemble with regards to our arrivals and parking so here it is.
I have also attached the spreadsheet for your allocated call sign's, the airfield map and the noise abatement document.

Hi John,

That’s a very healthy turn out.

Parking will be on the grass, very firm at this time of year, on the ALPHA APRON which is just to the East of the control tower and adjacent to the restaurant. I have attached the latest aerodrome plan and noise abatement procedures which you can mail out if need be. If the weather is bad then parking will be on the North Apron which is a hard surface.

Because of the numbers arriving we will take your list as the PPR and pilots only need to call us 01285 771177 if they cancel on the day. For weather info pilots need to look at the Brize TAF as they are very similar to us.

We would also like to ask everyone to expect an overhead join on arrival.

Perhaps we can give everyone a unique callsign such as “Commander 01” a relevant number to each registration on your list? For use when they call us 10 miles out.

I will be back in the office from 1200 today if you want to chat it through……………………

Cheers

Re: UK Commander Get together

Thanks John
It is nice to know where these airports are located.

Re: UK Commander Get together

Just 2 days to go now, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the weather plays ball.
Can I ask all you keen photographers to make sure you get as many pictures as you can.
It will be good to keep a record of the event for both us and the rest of the Commander community.
I was wondering if there have been this number of Commanders together at one time before in the UK or Europe, perhaps someone can tell me.

Re: UK Commander Get together

John
The weather is looking pretty good for Saturday from the Met. Office (they always have the best weather) just a chance of a shower in the afternoon.
I plan to get there quite early so I can take some pictures.
I've had a Commander now for 15 years, I don't think there has been a larger gathering in Europe but I stand to be corrected.

Re: UK Commander Get together

John,

I've heard that D-EWAT from Thuxton will not be attending. I think this is because there is a race day at Thruxton and movements are severely limited.

Re: UK Commander Get together

Thanks for that Fred, I will have my camera along but I am not renowned for the quality of what I take.

Thanks for letting me know about D-EWAT Hugh, I will take him off the list and let Kemble know.

Re: UK Commander Get together

We're really hoping to be there tomorrow....The aeroplane has just spent 4.5 months in the paint shop, the last decals have just gone on and the annual should be signed off by 8pm tonight! So fingers crossed we make it ok, even if not at the crack of dawn!

You'll know our commander when you see it, very high vis ;)

Re: UK Commander Get together

What time are we expected to be there? Still working through the jetlag, hopefully it'll work out but we didn't get up early this morning!!

Re: UK Commander Get together

Alan,
I hope you make it, I look forward to seeing how the paint scheme worked out.

Re: UK Commander Get together

John.

Apologies for the late reply...

I got back from holiday yesterday evening to the message that G-BOLT has failed the elevator spar inspection.

Clealry as double blow as I will not now be able to join the group today and wil need to set about finding out re the spar repair. Has anyone had any experiece re repair vs replacement?

Hope that the day goes well...I will b ethinking of you all.

All the best

Re: UK Commander Get together

Oh dear, on the A check I found that the latch on the port fuel tank cover had snapped, leaving no way of securing the cover in flight. Hope you all have a great visit to Kemble, Sorry Commander 21 won't be there! :(

Hi Ian. We had the repair done and after waiting for EASA approval, the actual process was pretty quick and painless. It also happened to be exactly what our engineers said they would do if they were allowed as soon as the issue came to light, but that's a separate discussion...

Re: UK Commander Get together

I am sorry you guys didn't make it and I hope you can get the issues done quickly and without too much hassle.

The day went very well and despite the weather at Kemble 19 aircraft made it(well actually 20 as G-EMCA is based there).
There should be some pictures of the day quite soon in the Gallery as Rob was very busy with his camera.

I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as Jackie and I did.
Here is a quick shot to give you an idea and thank you all that made it on the day.

Great to see a large gathering of Commanders.

Are the lime-green safety vests an EASA requirement?

Re: UK Commander Get together

The restaurant is very dangerous too :)

Good day out, took some mediocre photos which I will put on the gallery, there must be some better ones.

Re: UK Commander Get together

We have one airfield in the UK called Northampton Sywell that have a notice up in the fuel booth that says anyone found wearing a safety vest will be fined £20:D

Re: UK Commander Get together

John, thanks for organising this day, it was great to see all the commanders together and meet new people. Cannot wait to see the photies that get posted.
