Well Floriday is doing such a bang up job for their get-together tomorrow I think we need to see how well we can do with some Texas / Louisiana / Arkansas drivers.

Lets see about putting together a fly-in in our neck of the woods...

Any Thoughts? Suggestions?

Re: South Central Fly-in

Agreed! Let's pick a weekend and head to the Hanger Hotel... People can come for the day or stay overnight. We've got Commanders in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Tyler, Houston, "Carthage", and points beyond!

Surely Tejas can beat Florida and all of Europe!

Y'all always leaving ms out. ;(

Re: South Central Fly-in

It will really good to have central location where every one in the South Central States, Missisipi Louisiana Texas Arkansas and Oklahoma, could fly to for the get together.

Re: South Central Fly-in

How about here in Carthage? 4F2. I've got some friends here that just love to BBQ out at the airport and It doesn't get much more central than East Texas. Then maybe even Lonnie won't feel left out and we should be able to pull from most of Texas, (1 hour from Houston, Austin, Dallas, and only 1 1/2 hours from New Orleans or Mississippi (Lonnie).

If we want to get creative, everybody can bring a dish and we'll have a pot luck BBQ.

$4.10 Low Lead. Plenty of parking, and I'm sure I can get the use of the terminal and a few hangers if we need the room or the whether is cold.

Just a thought.

Re: South Central Fly-in

If the temperature will go down a little bit, too hot right now at 20F, we will have a fly-in at B18, yeeehaww!!

Re: South Central Fly-in

HECK YEA IM IN FOR THE EAST TX BBQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM IN FOR THE FREDRICKSBURG DEAL ALSO. I would have went to FL but work has me here today. Radu please dont get to hot, drink plenty of fluids (ice) and take plenty of breaks. LOL

Re: South Central Fly-in

Yeah, I'm in for either location. When? I should be all fixed up and flying again by the end of the month.

Looks like I am moving to Houston for a six month or so stint anyway.

Re: South Central Fly-in

I've spent most of yesterday and today working on my new hanger. Finally have one with doors and lights! Yahoo! Got my chairs, got my computer, got my coffee maker. Just need to get a fridge and a microwave and I'll be able to live there, sell my house and save all that pesky mortgage money for something more important like a hot shot for 1297J.

Flew today but it was windy with 1500 foot ceilings... went over to Mansfield Louisiana for some of that $3.60 100LL. Sun Just broke out and it's close to 70 this afternoon. Looks like some night flying is in order later.

Re: South Central Fly-in

East Texas sounds good to me as well.Let's shoot for some time in Feb. March and April get real busy real fast.

Re: South Central Fly-in

Sounds like we have some enthusiasim! Great. February should give us enough time to make plans.... I guess first up is the venue. My offer to host here at 4F2 is open and I suppose I can fly around the pattern and land so I can be counted as flying in :) It would be good to have some other suggestions... keeping in mind our eastern flyers (Louisiana & Mississippi and possibly even the panhandle of FLorida)

Down side to 4f2 is no restaurant... but we are set up well for feeding a bunch with BBQ, Burgers, or Steaks on the Grill. The pot luck option would be a different touch (and keeping with the southern hospitality of the region)

Tyler TX (TYR) is another option, just about 60 more miles west and they have a restaurant... Angelina County in Lufkin TX (LFK) also has a restaurant... again in far east TX 40 miles south of Carthage. I don't believe there are any other "draws" at any of these airports other than the food and the getting together... (no factory tours or such)

I'm not sure how to post a "poll" but I'm sure Radu does. I'll thow these airports in the hat, along with Fredricksburg... that will give us 4 choices and if there are any more suggestions, post them then we can have a Vote to see where we end up...

Re: South Central Fly-in

I think Tyler has a resturant on field now I will talk to Greg.

Re: South Central Fly-in

I'll come to any of these. The Hotel at T82 may be nice for those coming a long way. KLFK has meeting areas and as mentioned, a diner. 4F2 would be great for the down home feel....is there seating room? Tyler is good too. That's my personal preference so I'll go vote now but will go to either if 43J is out of annual by months end.

Re: South Central Fly-in

I was thinking originally of a "Texas" flyin, with an overnight... but we've got lots of folks to the East (with FAST Commanders...) that would come if we went East or NE TX. I'll come to any of them too, though!

Re: South Central Fly-in

I would go to any, also.
I guess we need to add an 'any of the above option'?

Re: South Central Fly-in

4F2 would be great for the down home feel....is there seating room?

4F2 by itself is pretty sparce... no big banquet rooms or such but, we would be able to use the terminal if the weather is cold (could easly seat 30 +) and if it's nice, there are several hangers that I can get use of with plenty of chairs, tables, TV's, music, etc... (some of us spend a lot of time at the airport) Motels are about 5 miles away but most will shuttle if asked. ( I could put up (or put up with depending on if it's Lonnie or not) 2 plane loads at my house if needed.

As far as any of the airports listed, Fredricksburg would be the only one with a hotel at or even close to the field.

Re: South Central Fly-in

Hi Guys:

I'm up for any spot in this region. Carthage or Fredricksburg would be fine. Also, maybe we ought to consider Gastons in Arkansas. Nothing beats landing on the grass. It's a nice place with food, fuel, cabins, and fishing. They have a banquet room. The approach lets you test your skill.

Here's the link: http://www.gastons.com/airstrip.php

Re: South Central Fly-in

Gastons would be incredible... but probably not in February. They are just far enough north that the weather is more unpredictable than down here on the plains.

Yes can be cold and fish only bite my hook!!! I am the fishing champ of Gastons !!!
