Seafaring Super Commander

Hi All,

N6048B, the 9th Super Commander, has arrived safely to Mike Perry in the Channel Islands. That makes two at Guernsey, with Chris Harborne having flown his across last Fall and now 48B having completed the transit by sea. The photos show her on our custom dolly ready to go, and in the container waiting for pick up (Jeep not included).

#10 continues in process, and will be first to fly the corrected stab pitch later this year. We are are now working on #11, Lonnie's '77 114.

Jim,

Just curious, did you get some kind of approval for the Stabilizer adjustment. If so, can that be done to other models yet, or is that still pending?

Pending approval, then expect to be able to supply kits for all models.

Jim, Craig has I think, 11 or 12 hrs up now. He reports that on a trip to QLD and back he averaged 175 kt tas.

Hey Jim, spoke with another older Commander owner and heard that you would now consider doing a Super Commander on an older 112. True?

Hi Mark,

Am still waiting on a structural comparison report from Don McCosh which should be coming along soon... rep'g to the FAA that the airframes were essentially the same from 75/76ish forward. Firewall reinforcements at the engine mount attach would be needed on earlier 112's to bring them up to 114 standard so it will be more expensive to convert those... probably 125 or so... but I am keeping them on my agenda with the FAA because they will make such capable airplanes.

Meanwhile, for anyone who would not mind being in experimental category, I am ready now to do any 112, post s/n 126, including the reinforcements if not already in place. The restrictions would be "evaluation and demonstration use only" > so always tell someone about the airplane wherever you go, "only entering congested airspace for the purpose of take-off and landing" > so no scenic tours in Class B!, and no flights outside the U.S. > this being the only meaningful restriction.

Hello Bob I will do. The plan is to have Jim fly super 59W to Prentiss before the COG fly-in and pick up Joann and I and fly it on to TX. That will be just like Christmas Day. We will take a ride I'm sure of that.

Jim - curious. What were the firewall reinforcements referenced? I am aware of the angle brackets added to the TC's at the sides and also the different rear channel brace (post sn 471), but not much else.

Jim, add me and N115CE to the stab list. Air conditioning issue is resolved, now need to work on speed. Will also be doing some panel upgrades in the next few weeks, hoping to go all electric, remove both vacuums and some antennae, and see if that helps my cruise speed any.

Thanks Jim. Brian Gallagher, the mechanic who solved my airconditioning issue, and who did my further cowl mods, might be a good resource for you when you get a fleet of Supers going on the West Coast. He'll be the guy I will go to for the stab kit when that happens. I think you may have spoken to him at one point. At any rate, with ten Supers flying and more on the way, you will soon need a global support network.
