Hello everyone. My name is Scott and I am in the market to buy a first airplane. I am married with two kids and looking for a day trip kind of airplane to fly from the Peachtree City or Newnan area in Georgia. I’m close to finished with a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Science and Management - Flight from Middle Georgia State University and currently possess a commercial single-engine license with instrument ratings with multi and instructor licenses in the works.

My wife and I are both fairly tall and like the idea of a larger cabin with two doors; the Commander seems to be a great fit and 112s are just in our all-cash price range. Problem is, I’ve never had the opportunity to sit in one let alone fly one.

I would love to meet any local Commander owners who would be willing to let us climb in their planes and instructors who can provide insurance-mandated training. I look forward to meeting y’all.
 
Hello Scott and welcome to the club.
Sounds like a 112 would be a good fit for your mission and there are several owners in the southeast that will make themselves known to you.
Giving us a reason to hop in the air and share the Commander mystique is never an issue.
Reach out to Judi Andersen (Jandersen) on the group as she will no doubt be able to help you find not just a ship but the right ship.

Scott - really a coincidence - I am married with a PPL, IR, and Commercial - (although much older than you) - and I actually DID buy a commander without ever having sat in one let alone fly in one. The first time I ever sat in a Commander was when I took off in mine after purchase from Islip NY for the trip back to Texas. Approximately 500' AGL I knew that I had made the best decision I had ever made in my life. I actually flew Southwest with a one way ticket from Dallas to Islip the night before, checked in my hotel, and then met my Commander the next morning. I can't really recommend this type of aircraft shopping, but it worked out for me.

My recommendation - get Judi Anderson to help you and go ahead and do your research (with her help on the specific airplane) and get in the Commander group! I can't really speak to the 112, but my research led me to the 114B and it worked out great for me. There are a lot of very happy 112 owners out there too.

Judi is correct I am contemplating selling my 72 112, N112CA. I would be more than happy to show you the plane and if the weather is good enough take you up for a flight. Hi Scott, Been busy so don’t log on as often as I should. I am at Covington KCVC with a 112a and we have a new guy who bought Lance Toland’s 114 at my field. We also have two CFIs which have lots of hours in the AC11 planes and can train/satisfy insurance and an A&P outfit for maintenance. Sorry, none for sale, we love our planes. Barry has a good one though—every option on it. My contact info is below if I can help.
 
Scott, we plan on spending Wednesday afternoon thru Saturday morning in Pell City, AL on our way to Florida. We’ll be staying very close to the airport there, if that’s convenient for you, send me a PM. Our airplane is not necessarily for sale but you’re welcome to try it on for size, and weather permitting, take a hop.
