Buying a 112

Hi All -
Really been eyeing a commander, specifically the 112 given it’s in my price range and I’m only 145lbs — before I pull the trigger, I was wondering if anyone knew of any A&Ps or pilots that have experience in the Commander in New Mexico.

On the other hand if there’s not any A&Ps or local commander pilots, should that stop me from getting one? I feel like that’s probably a significant factor — thoughts ?
 
Welcome, I do think there is an owner or two around you, at least CO & AZ anyway. I flew your way twice, I’ll have to admit I like sea level & 59 degrees better, for performance. On the one trip we had a great overnight at Raton, NM. I’ll find a picture of something, I think my favorite was Monument Valley.

Commanders use a lot of "off the shelf parts" and engines are like other airplanes. They are not hard to work on but requires some digging on a couple of things. If you provide the A&P with the maintenance manual, he/she should have no issues. You probably don't want to pay for them to train on your airplane. A lot of the preventive maintenance you can do as the owner. Ask your local A&P how he/she feels about the commander. If they say you shouldn't get it because you can't get parts for them, I would stay away from them and continue the search for a better A&P.
