Oshkosh

Re: Oshkosh

Commander 114 sn 14101 will be there Tues untill Friday Jack

Re: Oshkosh

Hi Jeff,

I'm planning to be there Sunday through Thursday. It will be my first experience there and I've pretty much memorized much of the 2013 NOTAM. :)

Re: Oshkosh

We will be there Sunday thru Wed

Re: Oshkosh

I will be there without my bird on Monday...(Tuesday if it rains on Monday)

Re: Oshkosh

My son Conor and I will be there Thursday eve through Sun Morning. Bob, one thing you have to know regarding the OSH NOTAM ... I have flown it 9 or 10 years now and EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN' TIME there is some yahoo, usually several yahoos (maybe that is yahooies?) who are flying their own, made-up version of the NOTAM. They are coming in high, or low, or slow way down in front of you, or overtake you or merging in from the sides way past the single-file point. It is truly amazing to me that there have not been collisions in the line-up.

Having said that, it is truly a thrill to encounter the sea of planes on approach and be a part of the whole grand affair. Just keep your head on a swivel and never assume that everyone else will follow the NOTAM like you will.

Re: Oshkosh

Oshkosh is about 4 weeks away. Are there any updates to Commanders going to the show?
We will be there Saturday thru Wed.

Re: Oshkosh

I am going to be there Tues - Thurs by car. Would love to meet up with someone to check out some 114's.

John

Re: Oshkosh

I am thinking I will be there if I can get a buddy to go. My wife doesn't camp so she said you go ahead.. I see most of you are leaving on Wednesday or Thursday why is that? to beat the biggest crowd? maybe that's what Ill do. Be sweet if we could park together but that's not going to happen with out flying in together. We will be easy to spot just look for the highest tail in the back 40.

Re: Oshkosh

Assuming the pre-buy on the 112A I'm negotiating to purchase & the Hotshot turbo/3-blade prop install go off with no delays, I plan to stop at OSH13 on the ferry flight back to Utah.

Lot's to get done between then and now but likely will be there Sun/Mon thru Thurs/Fri.

Will be camping in the North 40, as close as I can get to the Super 8 "beer gate".

...and a Big Shout-Out to Carl at RCM for getting it all done on a very rushed basis!

Re: Oshkosh

My oldest son Conor and I will be there but cannot get in until Thursday after the show. Will depart Sunday morning. Had a good time with Jim & Beth Bunn and Beirne & son ... who unfortunately sold their Commander. He had some great whiskey and cigars!

Re: Oshkosh

Looking promising for OSH13...pre-buy on N-1383J complete with no significant issues, close the purchase next week, some discretionary general maintenance work & Hotshot turbo install (thanks to Carl at RCM) then a ferry flight to OSH from MA on the way home to UT.

With luck TX in October for some beer at Octoberfest as well :-)

Were are you or the plane in MA as Im in the same state and if you have some time would be good to get together. I am based in the central part of the state KORH Worcester,MA and
sounds like you are a buying a plane in MA?

Re: Oshkosh

jody and I will be there on wed and wed nite for the airshow, would not mind hooking up with other Commander owners. Brad Docken N762DR, 78 114, s/n 14393 based RAP

Re: Oshkosh

Paul,

Get together while I'm back East sounds good. Grew up out on Cape Cod so if schedule permits I may play tourist for a day or two.

The plane is at Shoreline Aviation in Marshfield, MA. I'm located in Salt Lake City, UT and the plane will be based out of KSLC after I shuttle it home by-way-of OSH13.

Schedule is a bit nebulous at this point. I have to complete some modifications on the plane first and then I need to fly off a minimum of five hours in the plane with a Commander-specific CFI to meet insurance company minimums. Unfortunately the only qualified CFI at Marshfield is a part time corporate pilot so his schedule is hit or miss depending on his client's requirements.

Let's play it by ear...if you know of any Commander CFI's (500 total hours, 100 retract, 10 make & model) I'd appreciate contact info.

Thanks

Paul Davis is a COG member, based at KISP. CFII, oodles of hours, and owns a 112A HotShot. Look for him in the member's list and send an email (if he doesn't report in here himself).

Dave Kalbach is another CFII COG member, based at KRDG. Might be a haul to get him to MA. He owns a 112A non-HotShot that I hear he hasn't flown in a while, poor boy. Guess he's been too busy running the flight school. He did make it to the fly-in at Indiana last year, in the right seat of a 115, so we give him credit for that. :)

Let me know when you might be in MA and will see if we can hook up, I am a new Commander owner in March of this year and bought my plane in MI and know what its like to travel and squeeze in some flying and purchase a plane and not enough time in the day for a lot of stuff, so if I can help you in anyway checking the plane in advance or anything else let me know and glad to help a fellow Commander.

Pat Murphy in MI and his wife Betty were so helpful with my purchase in there state for my Commander on my two trips out there and never would have happen without there assistance, they even returned my rental car I left at the AP when I had to depart early to try and beat some bad weather and the rental company wasn't open and was great to get some help from friends when your out of state.

I don't know any specific CFI's for a Commander in my area but looks like others have given you some suggestions. Best wishes on your new Commander and let me know if I can help in any other way.

Roger - Radu is on the South Shore and probably knows another Commander-rated CFI you could work with. I'm based out of Lawrence and could recommend Bob Wade to you if you guys could work out logistics. Bob has a lot of Commander time and is also a FAA examiner in addition to being a CFI. A very nice older guy. 508-878-9302

Re: Oshkosh

Call King Aviation at Mansfield, 1B9 508-339-3624 and ask for Roger Lee, tell them Radu sent you, very very nice guys. Actually David Dineen, the airport manager at Marshfield, if I remember right, he is the co-owner of King at Mansfield, together with his sister Kelley, they both know me very well. I am down the road at KTAN, let me know if you need anything.
