New Shimmy Dampners

Re: New Shimmy Dampners

Add to list, subject to resonable pricing.

Re: New Shimmy Dampners

I am also in for one (price dependent)

Re: New Shimmy Dampners

I'm in depending on pricing. Thanks

Re: New Shimmy Dampners

Jim

The way I read your post is you have the drawings and will only provide parts for those that purchase your damper is that correct?

Add me to your list, hopefully you will get enough responses to make them cost effective.

Hi Jim,

Count me In.

This week I had the "O" rings replaced hope fully this will do the trick for atleast 1 year, I had done the same last December (2009).

My engineer tells me Cessna had similar problem, the new Cessna damper has springs hence no oil leaks and replacing "O" rings may worth exploring similar route.

Re: New Shimmy Dampners

Commercial Aircraft Products was acquired by APPH in 2007 and up until last year was willing to sell new dampners under some said "permission from CPAC". For some reason that changed last year, probably because their new parent company was concerned about avoiding any hint of an unapproved parts claim. They are no longer willing to sell any dampners or parts and have told me they have no interest in pursuing PMA or STC for our dampner. Also, Mike at the Cape has informed me that CPAC has nothing in the works for replacement dampners.

They weren't willing to sell them when I got mine "worked on" last time. It was only on a rebuild/exchange basis.

My effort is in coordination with APPH.

They have provided me with the drawings which Aerodyme would capture from print to CAD and combine with other substantiation data to create an improved FAA-approved dampner. I have given APPH a first-refusal on manufacturing them for us so long as they are price competitive.

The improvements would include a bushing at the shaft attachment end, and some weight savings.

I would PMA all the parts so that after any owner has switched over to the new approved dampner, he would be able to obtain replacement parts from Aerodyme as necessary. This heads off a problem like we now have with gear actuators where Gar-Kenyon is holding our toes to a very high price for replacement actuators (and repairs!) and is not willing to sell any replacement parts. Maybe I'll need to tackle the gear actuators next just so we can have a supply of replacement parts for those and make a few overdue design improvements there as well.

Well that is a whole different story. The newer design is much more robust than the older one, and I am sure your improvements will only make it more so. I would get one myself, but I already have the newer one... and I am really trying to save for the SuperStream.. so quit distracting me. Unless you are doing a cowling... then I am all ears ;)

Regards,
Neal

Re: New Shimmy Dampners

Have had my damperners rebuild three times. The last time has lasted about one year. Put me on the list. Any idea how long this effort will take?

Re: New Shimmy Dampners

Hi Everyone,

We seem to be climbing through 36 owners interested in new shimmy dampners. That's a great start, thanks all. I wonder if we can reach at least 50 for me to use for an initial cost/price analysis?

Hi Neal,

Yes, I would be starting with the "B" design and striving to make it better yet, less expensive to manufacture, and easier to service.

Hi Floyd,

Yes, you understood correctly, I would only be allowed by the FAA to sell replacement parts for the new Aerodyme dampners.

Thanks All,
Jim
