New Member from Connecticut

Hi Everyone, I just registered for the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I hold a Comm Inst SEL since 1976 (yes, it's been that long!), and have a couple hundred hours in 112's and 114's flying out of SAT.

I have owned several planes in the past, most recently a Mooney M20C, and am currently in the market for a Commander.

I saw a '77 112 Hot Shot from Sun Coast, and wanted to get opinions from the group as to whether this is a good plane and a good buy. My primary mission will be visiting our kids in DC from CT, and an occasional cross country down to FL.

I welcome all of your comments and suggestions!

Roger

Re: New Member from Connecticut

Welcome, fairly new here myself.

From CT to FL? May I ask how many would usually go? Solo or just 1 more? Most of the Commander models aren't the fastest out there for gallons burned, but then we could all do the airlines if we wanted the most cost effective travel.

If you owned a Mooney you know about speed for fuel burned. I actually went to look at a Mooney when my attention got diverted to a Commander.

Hello Roger and welcome to The COG. I joined about a year ago but haven't been that active. I can tell you that if you do become a Commander owner, there is a wealth of information here; but you already have the best working for you. Judy knows her stuff and will work hard for you.....You're in good hands with Sun Coast

Roger,

I have sent you a PM, You must be talking about N377SB. The fact that Sierra Bravo is a B model and a Hotshot is a fantastic combination.

I used to own her, there is so much that I can tell you.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Welcome Roger. If you are talking about 377SB, Ken is right. Great airplane and the current owner is a great guy who took just as good of care of her as Ken did. I also second the comment regarding Judi. She knows her stuff and the fleet and can help you find what you need.

Welcome Roger.

Re: New Member from Connecticut

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. My typical mission will be my wife, and me plus our 20 pound dog! As far as flying quickly, that is not a major concern. As mentioned in my original post, I previously had a Mooney M20C, which I flight planned at a very optimistic 135k. Flying down to Florida is a leisurely day flight with a stop at Grand Strand (KCRE) for fuel and lunch.

My main object is safe flying and enjoying the ride. As wiguy said, if speed where my only goal the airlines (minus the TSA nonsense) can't be beat.

Wow, N377SB. When I was with Commander in the late 70's, I trained its owner in the fall of 1978 on a ferry trip from PWA to SBJ - Solberg, NJ. It was a stock 112B back then. Great memories.

Ferried a plane from Solberg NJ to AZ a few years back. Cute little airport tucked away in the most unlikely place.

Re: New Member from Connecticut

I have the hot shot and am totally amazed every time I lift of from the Prescott Arizona airport (elevation around 5000') when the density altitude is 7000+...Wouldn't trade it for anything

Did my Private Check Ride from SBJ. Under my left wing yesterday on my way from Central Jersey to Blairstown.
