Re: N1340J to SW Virginia
I run Aeroshell 15W-50 year round in 26J although you'll find lots of opinions on oil among pilots. Lycoming has official recommendations if you go hunting through their engine data. And not a bad idea to see what the previous owner was running - if the engine was happy with what the previous owner used it's worth considering leaving well enough alone. And you'll use the standard Champion CH48110 oil filter. There are Tempest equivalents and perhaps others out there but for something that gets changed every 25 hours I don't worry about it too much.
I and a few others run the Challenger CP-2100 high-flow filter. Opinions on these vary from 'it gave me 5 extra knots' to 'it was like throwing my money into a fire'.
I've definitely picked up some extra MP but then I've also installed the complete later style induction system in 26J so hard to say where the improvement all comes from.
What oil and air filters are you guys using? I didn't find much when I search for "oil filter" and "oil change". I have the PN (6435683) from the catalog but it doesn't translate into much. Any oil recommendations while we are on the subject?
