MT Propeller

Re: MT Propeller

Thanks John and Joel, I will update my info. Scary how fast someone can know all about you.

Flew in there a year or two ago, on a weekend trip to Park city.

Re: MT Propeller

How would I go about determining a value for my Hartzell 3-blade with about 530 hours on it? Any ideas?

Re: MT Propeller

Morning Rolf,

I gave 9,400 + shipping in 2012 for a Hartzell 78" Scimitar, think the TBO 'recommended' is 2000hrs.
so 530/2000 = .27 9400 * .73 = 6862.00 Take off 362 for nicks and whatnot and ask 6500.00

Or call Chris at Air Props 334 797-5039 and see what he may advise. Great guy and deals with all kinds / sizes of props for a livelihood.

What are you going with next??

I sold mine for something like 4500 or 5000, a Black Mac 3-blade.

Re: MT Propeller

Ok, now I am proving my ignorance. I did not know the Black Mac had an STC also. I will look for info on the website. In a nutshell, mine is a familiar story. Budgeted for an overhaul and new hub only to find my prop can't be repaired. After making inquiries, the consensus is replacing the two blade is throwing money away. Not to mention, it far exceeds the original budget. For someone looking to invest in a MT, this could be a win/win.

Re: MT Propeller

John, I had hoped my 500 hr prop would be
worth more than $6500 since it has three quarters
of it's useful life left. The previous owner
spent 12K on it. I'm entertaining the idea of
Losing 28 lbs with an MT from Carl Lee.
Since the ADS-B situation is looming over my head,
I must weigh all expenditures...

Re: MT Propeller

Rolf,

Can relate; lessons learned but I completely overlooked the added weight of the Scimitar when I was upgrading. What a surprise to my already forward CG challenged original setup. (Think I had the MT's weight data when I was researching the upgrade)

It all worked out and I don't notice any CG related handling issues.

12K, guess I got an excellent deal from Jim R's connection with Hartzell. (even with a 1K for the STC added, I didn't include the STC in my calculations above) . . .

Re: MT Propeller

I just heard through the rumor mill that MT flight tested a 3 blade MT on a 112TC/TCA in Germany, and an EASA STC is pending (thanks Per).

If anyone is interested in an MT for their TC/TCA in the US, give me a heads-up here. I'll put you on a list of potential customers. I can use this list to put pressure on MT to pursue a US STC.

Re: MT Propeller

Ok, quieter than the hartzell 3blade. How about the hartzell 2 blade? Do you have dB readings to sunstantiate quieter claim?
Thx

Re: MT Propeller

Interested Carl. Curious to know pricing when the time comes.

Re: MT Propeller

I got a 3 blade now, what are the advantages of the MT over the Hartzell

I would think weight is the biggest advantage.

Re: MT Propeller

Roger that, though not a 'show stopper' it was a surprise when we hung the 78" Scimitar. All my research up to that point was based on the MT.
With the excitement of acquiring and installing the weight pieced didn't hit unit time for the paperwork . . . Still okay in the w/bal . . .

Re: MT Propeller

Anyone have a Hartzell 3 blade for sale, we already have the STC

Re: MT Propeller

Question still stands. "Quieter" too subjective. Do you have any dB data? Yes or no.

Hi Bill,

Sorry, I don't have the db data available. Is that your only criteria? You're welcome to come down and fly with me sometime.

Re: MT Propeller

You can find some information here: https://www.mt-propeller.com/en/entw/stcs/rockw_3.htm, but no specific noise data. They do exist though, just ask them for a noise certificate.

On the 114TC, the noise level is about the same, but it is very nice to fly with, much quicker on the gas and NO vibration.

Hi Finn,

Exactly correct! A lot of the noise from the 2 blade comes not from the prop itself, but from the vibration noise. In terms of actual db the 3 blade props aren't actually much quieter, but sound quieter because they sound different. The 2 blade sounds like it's beating it's way through the air. The 3 blade is more like a whir.

With a Turbo the 2 blade runs out of surface area at high altitudes, so a 3 blade is the only answer for decent performance up high.

Re: MT Propeller

I can tell you that on a 114TC there is a real difference in noise "type". It is way smoother and will out climb a standard prop. It spins faster when starting and changes pitch faster.
