Hey Carl, Just watched the Bonanza Society webinar on Turbo Normalized operations. Here. I believe they are all automatic wastegates. They use the TIT to determine LOP peak and always use WOT and never lean on the climb. Not withstanding the POH, with all of your experience with these TN airplanes, can you run through how you setup for takeoff, cruise, descents and landing operations using manually controlled operations. Just looking for your normal procedure, MP, RPM settings, TIT temps (what are you looking for or watching out for, etc). Any difference between 112 and 114 hotshots would be appreciated. What kind of numbers do you see at 10K, 15K, 17K? Do you use the TIT at all for leaning, etc?

Jim; do you hv the HS POH and perf data? There should be a link in the RCM conf.

Judi

Yes, I have the POH for HS.

The POH is pretty detailed about how to operate the system in all of the phases of flight you're asking about. The 112HS and the 114HS are very different animals. The 114HS has an automatic wastegate controller and much wider operating margins. Yes, The TIT is what I monitor for fuel flow.

I watched about as much of that video as I could stomach. I think the guys flying around with those swamp buggy motors have just come to accept that they're gonna have to replace cylinders every 600 - 1000 hours, so they might as well get as much out of them as they can. I guess if money's no object you could try running your Hot Shot that way - might get 500 - 1000 - 1500 hours - don't know:-)

Thanks Carl. Was it the lean of peak that you didn't like? How do you use the TIT to adjust fuel flow?

No problem. I didn't see how what he was saying in the video corresponded very well with what's outlined in the HS POH.

I'd prefer to not re-enter the LOP/ROP debate. There are many other threads already available for review concerning this subject.

The LOP can has been opened.....I run my 114 Hot Shot WOT LOP and Full rich on climb. No CHT above 380, oil analysis is always great and and Savvy aviator engine data reviews always great. I use TIT for my LOP set up. My peak TIT is 1645 deg. Carl's TN unit is great really enjoy flying my bird.

Yours is a straight valve low compression engine. Jim's is an angle valve high compression engine. Your engine makes just 43hp per cylinder. Jim's makes 50hp per cylinder, so you have much wider operating margins. That's why the IO540 is such a great candidate for turbonormalizing! Jim could run his the way you run yours, but it's kinda like swimming naked at the Country Club - I'm not sure what the outcome would be:-)
