Heading to Florida

Re: Heading to Florida

Congratulations Dave! Great news. Keep us in the loop.

Re: Heading to Florida

Thanks Jim, will do

Incidentally I talked with Garrett on my way down here. I thought we could all meet up at his place when I get back. Maybe one weekend before the fly-in.

Re: Heading to Florida

Just another update then off to bed - Long day here.

Took my Instrument checkride today. I had the "luck" of actually having the FISDO ride along to evaluate the DPE while doing my checkride.

But all went well. Knocked it out of the park!

However had you asked me if I was ready, my answer still would be no....

Re: Heading to Florida

Congratulations! :)

Re: Heading to Florida

Dave,

Got me thinking, I took my IR check ride 33 years ago. I wonder if I could pass it again today.

Did they make you demonstrate a DF steer?

Re: Heading to Florida

Good going Dave!

Re: Heading to Florida

No, on the DF steer, and an ND what???

Just kidding, did quite a bit of reading on the NDB approaches and still not sure I get it completely (fortunately I took that thing out of the plane)

I did manage to do my single engine ILS to ATP standards (no more than 1 dot deflection)

Was nervous as would be expected, but the ride went great. I was so amazed with myself, and smiling ear to ear on the inside - all while thinking don't get cocky!!

...Just hold it together for 2 more Approaches... :)

Re: Heading to Florida

Re: Heading to Florida

I will probably be out of reach, but try me on my cell phone if you get close.

I should be departing 8:00 AM headed to Atlanta (KLZU); from there I'll be going to Jacksonville, FL - Craig (KGRG); and then I'll be limping my tired butt home to Panama City (KPFN).

If I take 45 minutes at each stop, I'll probably be back here at 6:30 PM Central (2330 Z)

I'm doing all this in a Cessna 172 mind you, so these trips take a while. Good IFR trainer though, after doing all of my instrument training in a Seminole the slow speed really helps giving you plenty of time to think, and think, and think.... :)

It didn't take me long to break out the Ipod so I could listen to music while flying. I thought I would wait til I was more profeicient, but man... is a 172 SLOW!!

Short final I slow down to 60 KIAS, its almost like hovering over the threshold...

Re: Heading to Florida

Passed my Commercial Multi ride yesterday, now heading off to CFI school.

This last round was very intensive, flew 75 hours, took 4 FAA writtens, and completed my commercial training and checkride all in about 20 days. Has kept me very busy.

This last segment (CFI school) is supposed to be even more intense.

See you all soon.

Re: Heading to Florida

That's Great news Dave! Keep up the good work. I'm sure it's challenging, but it will be worth it in the end.

Re: Heading to Florida

Whew!!!!

Been away for a little again.

Good news is..... I'm now official a CFI. Passed my MEI today. Now I start working on the II tomorrow.

Funny flight - I'll make sure we talk about it one day at the bar at this years Fly-In.

See you all soon. :)

I have about a week left here. Looking forward to heading home, and get back in the Commander

Re: Heading to Florida

Thanks Brian

I'll be home soon. From there I have to go directly to annual, do not pass go, and they certainly aren't going to give me any money :)

After that I'll probably try to get up to ISP to see all of you guys. Hope Sven isn't fllown out from Alaska.

Re: Heading to Florida

Dave,

Congrats on all the licenses and ratings. What's your plan from here for time-building? What's your total time now?

Re: Heading to Florida

Brad,

I chose the school I did because of the way you build multi time.

I should have enough to get hired by someone, but still need alot more to get to that coveted ATP rating.

I now have 595 Total Time, 500+ PIC, and 112 Multi
