Just a quick 'Hello" from a fellow Commander enthusiast.

Been lurking for a while now, but wanted to to step out and say thanks for such a terrific community.
There is a wonderful sense of community and brotherhood here, everyone is so eager to help.
I have been reading everything I can, have learned so much already.

I will be the first to admit I don't know alot about Commanders specifically, or GA in general, but I do have a vast mechanical and aviation background (Military and Commercial), so if there is anything I can help with, I'd be happy to contribute.

I am working on my schedule now so I can drive down to the Fly-In this fall. Would love to visit with some owners and attend some seminars.

Regards,

Bill Schwab

Bill,

Welcome to the Commander Owners Group!

Welcome Bill. Looking forward to meeting you at the Fly-in this fall.

Morning Bill,

Welcome!!
Could I suggest, and we're all adjusting to a new site format . . . knockout a basic signature block. Nothing too detailed but your location / home field would be beneficial to possibly aligning a ride or static checkout.
Clear Skies . . .
John

Welcome to the group! Great idea coming to the fly-in this fall. You will be able to compare the different models and possibly snag a flight with someone.
where are you driving in from?

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Hi John, I thought I had. I made one, but it is just a post to my own profile. As soon as I can figure out how to post, I'll make sure I do. (not exactly intuitive)

Hi Rolf, I'm in the North Dallas area, Richardson. Addison, KADS, is the closest field to my house.

Welcome to the COG. I am one of the newest members and the support here in incredible. You can't own a commander without being part of the COG.

Hi Bill,

I feel like I am too new to be welcoming you to the group as I just joined around the same time as Marcos, but welcome aboard. I actually just noticed this topic and will have to get my own intro put up.

I see you were a C-141/C-5 FE. Where were you based on the 141? I was at McGuire in the 18th, and then after separating from active duty I went to the C-130H2 in the Ohio Air Guard.

I am going to see if somehow I can rearrange my schedule so I can make it to the Fly-in this fall. If I manage to succeed, we can have a chat about the mighty Starlifter.

Hi Darrell,
Thanks for the welcome.
I started in the 86th at Travis on the Starlifter, separated AD and went reserves at Dover, 326th on the C-5. A few years later helped the 756th transition from C-130s to C-141 as an Instructor FE.
Been thru McGoo plenty of times on missions and doing sim training.

I sure hope you can make it. Look forward to meeting you and all the other wonderful folks on here.

Bill.

Hi Bill,

Welcome again . . Lot of retired Mil in the COG, watch out for the war stories . . .

There I was, going in to Arlington at night trying to find the field in amongst all those lights . . .;)

We have a LOT of COG'rs in Texas, McKinney area for sure.

I'll bet one will pipe-up on the net soon.

My dad FE'd 119's and 130's - - - Way before your time . . .

best,
John

Welcome Bill, I am sure we are all honored, that as a former C-141 /C5a FE your interest in our cherished Commanders - is quite intriguing.
Have had a few occasions over the decades to have flown in proximity to those famous craft & even couple B-52's near or in MOA.

Grew up Rome Griffiss AFB now RME then Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, as my father was Electronic Engineer /DOD 1950s/60s after WW2 Radio Engineer with Signal Corp & after 1926-29 Army Air Force -Pilot & Mechanic on DH4s . biplane & (experimental tri-wing airplane) Martin Bombers in Hawaii. Oahu Cuz pilot says old grass strip now R&R resort.

I was stationed Naha Okinawa Naval Air Station & Kadena Okinawa (B-52s & SR71s daily) 1968.

Bottom.line-I have great appreciation for you level of professionalism. My hanger mate ex B-52 pilot & many at HWY also retired Military & Pentagon affiliates & they also admire my TCA.

As you noted, tremendous collective knowledge & experience in our COG family. Sure your perspectives will be MOST WELCOME!

We always welcome another perspective or opinion!!!

Thank you all very much for the warm and sincere welcome.

It almost feels like I'm related to y'all.

Please don't tell me one of you is a close personal friend with Kevin Bacon. That would be less than 3 degrees of separation!

John, my last squadron flew C-124 Globemasters during that 70's war, and then C-130. So there were still a few old timers around by the time I showed up.

Sherman, I grew up just up the road (I-95) from you in Woodbridge. Dad and I used to drive by your house on the way to Summerduck to go deer hunting, and my mom still lives off 17 in a retirement community.

Looking forward to shaking hands, swapping stories and meeting each and every one of you at the meet-up.

Bill.

Welcome to the group Bill.
