Great Lakes Fly In 2017

It has been 10 years since we have done the "Great Lakes Fly In"
We plan to do it again this year. It is posted in the General forum and all are invited. It is patterned after the fly in 2007.
It is a flying and social agenda. No formal meetings. Put In Bay, Mackinac and Traverse City are resorts so there are many things to see and do. The islands book up early and are very expensive. Port Clinton and Traverse City are more flexible for hotels.
Please respond so we can get good hotel arrangements set up.

I went with a group to Beaver Island two years ago, it was a fun time. Depending on how things shake out, I would join up in some fashion or another.

We have friends in Port Huron and have discussed a trip to see them this summer so count us in and we'll see our friends during this trip.

Count us in, party of two!

Maybe I can talk John (Jamesdub) and Connie Wright into flying up as well, so that would be two Commanders from Alabama.

Maybe we could swing an extra day and hit 'French Lick' IN (KFRH) (former COG Fly-in spot) on the return leg? Connie and I made it from Sault Ste Marie with no problems on fuel.

There are 2 hotels to choose from and they are across the street from each other. They are within walking distance from the airport, museum and airport restaurant. We have a choice of restaurants within walking distance or we can get a cab Friday night.

I understand we are still quite a ways off on the calendar for this trip but do you feel good about being able to make this trip happen?

Connie is a go, I sort of wanted to 'sneak up' on the Northern folks and just pop-in on one of their fly ins. that might have worked for one of their fly-in luncheons but this looks like we need to work the reservations side of the house . . .

Need to be hooking up with Rolf and Ann for a spring / summer Minn run. Still want to step across the Mighty Mississippi before its all over . . .

Traverse City Hotels

Traverse City is a resort city and the hotels require a 2 day minimum for a block rate. 3 hotels that have rooms for Saturday, are located by each other and are not far from the airport are listed. The choice is yours and you can even book at a chain hotel if want to use points. I have booked at the ParkShore because of the restaurant and bar so we can gather there. We will likely be on the town for dinner and entertainment. The group will determine that when we are there.
If you are doing the Great Lake Fly In, do not hesitate booking the rooms. You can always cancel latter without a fee.

When we went to Beaver Island two years back we were able to use the courtesy van to get into town. The bison burger at the local establishment was most excellent.

I do agree, Mackinac Island is much more festive.

Just gorgeous flying this weekend. 66 yesterday. 63 today. Went up to a hockey game in Port Huron and there was an ultralight guy flying! Doubt he ever flew it in February before. Looking at mid 60's the latter half of the week again.

Significant flying other is researching the hotels at the different RON spots. Any update on a group / COG discount or any other info we should consider / share when making our reservations??

This is a flying event and we will be at several airports. They are on the original posting.
