Wish I could join you guys for the visit to Ken's place, as well as the COG fly-in. Just not in the cards this year. Maybe when I finish the Bearhawk Patrol!

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

You are dead on the spot Frank.

From the Pecan VOR it is 4 nm on the 345 degree radial.

Pecan VOR is out of service and has been for the last couple of months.
The FAA does not have the money available to fix it, we are told.
$3.9 million dollars is being spent to extend the runway 800' in Sylvester Ga. KSYV
There are no aircraft based at SYV and I know of no aircraft that have landed there in the last three years.

Life is a barrel of fun

[sarcasm]
Naaahhhh.. more of a build it and they'll come - I mean - no one has landed there in 3 years, clearly because it was 800 feet too short. When they add the 800 feet, it will be one of the busiest GA airports in the entire county. [/sarcasm]

It is truly odd how appropriations and spending decisions are made let alone how government funding is awarded. It's sad where they can't repair an existing Nav Aid that can help anyone flying through to extend an airport without traffic.

There are no aircraft based at SYV and I know of no aircraft that have landed there in the last three years.

From Airnav:

Aircraft based on the field: 2
Single engine airplanes: 2

Aircraft operations: avg 40/week *
52% local general aviation
48% transient general aviation
* for 12-month period ending 31 December 2014

52% of 40 flights per week, is 20.8 flights, or about 10.4 flights per week for each airplane. Those two aircraft based at the field are awfully busy, Ken.

We once had a city manager with similar math skills. Broke the city. Almost destroyed the airport. We railroaded him out of town finally. Government bureaucrats learn from each other. k

Ken,

As we are getting closer - I thought I'd check again to see if we needed to bring anything? If you need something please let us know so we can help. I really appreciate your invitation and hospitality.

Ken, I hope you're safe and dry and the turf didn't get too soggy. Getting pretty stoked about the visit to your place to see all the hard work you are putting in. I'm getting so excited, I knocked out the flight plan already! See ya soon.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Over reaction here. Closed the schools down Thursday even though it was a perfect day. Half the businesses were short on labor as employees stayed home with kids.

I got a lousy O.4" of rain, Wednesday night and none Thursday ...three weeks since last rain.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Ken-We were thinking about you and GOaksP with the TSH reports. Also Sid & I have coordinated hookup plan and since VFR, weather eyc., hope to come down direct a day or couple days early.Make sure no Plan E.
Thinking Albany Wingate with pts discounts. Will be a real thrill for us all!
