Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Oh really? $60.00 that's 15 gallons @ $4/gal. Hmm. Time to rethink and re-plan.

Thanks for the Heads up.

Thanks, Michael

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

You fellers heading into Nashville,... JWN has good uber coverage if that is of interest. $12-$20 into downtown depending upon level of service you request. If any are artistic gear heads, there is a remarkable exhibition at the Frist for two more weeks. Italian design concept cars from 1940-1970. All the major names represented and some you may not recognize. Some incredible designs and well worth the entrance charge. You can get a taste at their website.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Thanks for the info guys. I will plan on JWN then

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Ok, I would call ahead. There are 2 FBO's at Nashville. Signature and Atlantic. There landing fees are about $45, But if memory serves me right they also tack on a service charge. I think for Signature it was going to cost me around $60. Not sure what it is now, but I would have them clarify all the fees.

I did not know John Tune had a $10 fee. They never asked for it, but I always got fuel anyway..

I called BNA Atlantic today and inquired about this Sat & Sun overnight. I may have to catch a SWA flight out of BNA Saturday am..... They quoted me $20/night with fuel purchase with landing and security fee waived.

In spite of all the negatives on Airnav I've had good luck at Atlantic in the past. k

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

I am thinking KMQY. Will call them tomorrow and check on fees.

Really? Never heard it that low, but it has been a while. What FBO quoted you?

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

We are also Nashville bound, hoping the weather cooperates and let's us arrive on Saturday the 24th. However, M54 (Lebanon Tn) works out better for our dinner appointment on Sunday. Anyone want to meet Monday in Nashville for lunch or dinner? Our plans now include the Frist, along with several other stops.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

I used to fly into BNA a lot, but not in the past couple of years. Back then Atlantic decidedly did NOT want single engine planes on their ramp. Glad to hear that seems to have changed. Atlantic is a funny one. Varies greatly from place to place.

I used Signature and was very happy. Just checked and they get:

7 gallons fuel minimum purchase waives $36 handling
100LL $6.75
$5 infrastructure
Parking $15 tiedown

So, you are really paying $20 for overnight and a $2 premium/gallon on fuel.

They have a supervisor named Craig Brook. Great guy and takes good care of you. He is still there. Very personable.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Just called MQY and they also have a $20 ramp fee which is waved if you by fuel. Fuel is $4.84 over there. No other charges.

Smyrna, Tennessee ( MQY ) is the 3rd largest in TENN and is by far the busiest airport in all of Tennessee. It has been named the busiest GA airport for TENN like 9 straight years in a row.

A Very Nice place for a stop over.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

I just realized this thread got a little hijacked and I think Im the one that started it. I apologize. That said I am officially going to have to bag trying to fly down there. The weather is looking ugly all along the Rockies and we need to leave tomorrow to make all this work, so we will be coming via airlines and rental car. Sad I cant fly but Ill still be there. Hope to meet up with everyone. Still planning on Nashville first from Fri to Tuesday then I think flying to ATL and getting a car there so should be at PIM on Tuesday, Wed the latest.

Ill also have to cancel on Kens fly in :(

Fly safe everyone and see you there

Tim

You can always fly with someone to Kens. Don't close that door yet.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Tim,

I am headed to 20GA - outside ATL tomorrow. Then heading from 20GA to Ken's on Thursday - weather permitting. I am trying to position myself close enough to drive or fly. So one way or the other - I will be heading from the ATL area to Ken's Thursday.

My dad was stationed in Smyrna when it was Sewart AFB. Nice long runways and PLENTY of parking. Fairly close to Nashville.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Ken,

What time does Grand Oaks International allow arrivals? I am sure they have very strict arrival and security protocols. Lol

I am headed down from 20GA on Thursday and will stay over night. A few questions:
Suggestion for a place to stay.
What time do you want people to start showing up?
Is there a radio freq we should use when coming into your place?

I'm looking forward to being there next week.

Dean
