Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Sherman,

Please come down a few days early, I have two guest rooms for you and Sid.

Dan and Dolly (draft horses) both need their stalls cleaning out. And both need to be washed down. My chickens, the roosters Chain Saw and Charlie have gone missing, but the girls are in good shape. The nest boxes need some attention, I am averaging three eggs per day although they are not very big eggs. I use three eggs for an omelet.

Get here early, be assured I can put you to work.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Ken.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Ken - Camellia and I have not 'washed down' Horses before but we have ridden before.
However, we are perfectly willing to learn as long as we don't get kicked. As you know, managing the Tree Farm, we are both accustom to 'real work' on a daily basis - when I'm not keeping N112HT clean or working on it.

BTW, after I finished the annual - physically, in tge oppressive heat 8-1--8/11; I had to hibernate in the air conditioned Lodge garage and finally finished installing the new canvas top on my '74 Jensen Interceptor Convertible. Then rebuilt the Edelbrock 4 brrl carburator with a friend who races MGBs, but also has a rare TVRV6, Austin Healey 3000 and an Interceptor Saloon. After getting it funning and tuned, took two days to super clean and condition every sq inch of the 8 Magnolia colored Leather hides. It's ready for the Virginia Jaguar Club Concours on September 17th. As Chief Judge of the club, didn't want to enter my '89 XJS V12 convert this year. Since the JENSEN is same Satin Beige Metallic, figured 'the Cousin' would do for Display.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

For those using foreflight it took me a bit to get the coordinates in using the format they like but the ones that Bob posted in the very first post are spot on.

Heres the exact format I used for getting it into foreflight as a waypoint:

31.725N/84.311944W

Ive never entered anything using lat/longs into Foreflight so it took me a bit to figure it out, but im not that smart.

Looking forward to our almost 4,200 mile trip

Tim

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Tim,

I am doing similar but going on over to stay with friends in Atlanta - as a hedge against weather. If your coming across or near Denver and need a place to stop - for the day/night whatever - you are welcome to use my hangar at KFTG. Not the cheapest fuel, but, we do get hail often - so I thought I'd pass this along - just in case.

That goes for your return as well. I will be heading to FL on 10/02 - and won't be headed back to CO until 10/09. So the hangar is empty and the FBO can let you in.

I look forward to meeting up with you and and everyone in a few weeks!

Dean

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Tim, we are doing the Tennessee tour as well starting from Memphis Nashville then Dollywood before KPIM. Would be in Nashville on the 26th.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Dean,

Thank you for the invite/offer. Ill be heading back about then. I grew up and learned to fly in CO and you never know what the weather will hold. We are planning on leaving the PDX area on 9-22 and reaching BNA the 24th. Stay there until the 27th (maybe 28th then to PIM. Leave PIM the 2nd to go to TLH. Then to FLL the 3rd. then start heading back to WA. if all goes as planned itll be over 5,100 miles.

Look forward to meeting you too Dean.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

We will be in BNA the 26th Alex. What airport/hotel are you staying at? We are still working on hotels. Going for a mini family reunion.

Tim

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Tim, we will landing at BNA as well. Hotels....... we are also working on it. Will keep you posted.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

You guys going into KBNA Nashville, John Tune (JWN) has no landing fees, Cheeper gas and about 25 min from KBNA if you have hotels there. Most of us local guys go there when going to Nashville.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Mike you are correct; John Tune is the best place to land if going to Nashville. I landed there last week and it's a nice little GA airport. There is a $10.00 landing fee but they waive it if you take on a minimal amount of fuel (I think like 10 gallons). They were all extremely nice and helpful.....

My plan is to buy fuel at KSRB heading out of Nashville, where the fuel is a lot cheaper.

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Ok, I would call ahead. There are 2 FBO's at Nashville. Signature and Atlantic. There landing fees are about $45, But if memory serves me right they also tack on a service charge. I think for Signature it was going to cost me around $60. Not sure what it is now, but I would have them clarify all the fees.

I did not know John Tune had a $10 fee. They never asked for it, but I always got fuel anyway..
