I have never really been tickled yet by anything a controller says. I mostly hear a professional hurried individual. Sometimes, I hear some cranky-ness or some emotion when someone doesn't get it or doesn't do what they are told..... However, coming back from Cheyenne WY on Saturday - I had a good laugh. I had VFR flight following and was just handed off to Denver.

Denver Center - Commander 4742W with you at 9500, over Gill. --- Commander 4742W - Denver center - altimeter is 30.18 - maintain VFR and remain clear of the bravo. -- 42W remain VFR and outside of the bravo.

So I start my descent - the bravo isn't too far away - and I might was well go down to 7500 - so I can get below the entire floor and not have to worry about clipping any edges - to me - makes me more predictable and stable in their eyes.

Commander 4742W - Denver Center say type --- Denver Center Commander 42W - AC11 --- 42W do you have a tailwind or are those things that fast???? -- I glance at my KSN770 - it shows a ground speed of 190 - LOL -- I was descending at 140 with a beefy tailwind - I replied back -- I was in a descent with a tail wind... while chuckling.
This may be the only time - I get to move that fast. But, it was funny - I was expecting to hear a maintain 190 until some point -- or reduce speed to XXX... it was funny.

Fun times!

Dean ... you should have responded "Denver Centre Uber Commander 42W, in a descent with a head wind, will try and slower it down". Too much fun.

Dean,
I used to have issues being AC11 as we had a Delta regional whose callsign was Acey,, Leaving a very small airport I was pointed out to a Bonanza as Acey 11 departing Homerville. Bonanza was arguing with him that Delta did not fly into Homerville (HOE). I always say Afla Charlie one one, never eleven.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Denver Center, Commander 42W, you’ll have the answer on my return trip in a climb with a headwind thru your sector.

Oopsie center. Forgot to turn those dang jato bottles off.

JATO - LOL!!!!!! Those are actually wickedly cool to watch. I was thinking when I was in Leadville with 42W - they might be needed -- that was the longest high speed taxi/take off roll I've ever had.

Love the humor guys - thanks for helping me laugh on a Tuesday!

In our lowly 112A it is usually 'Fox Oscar Mike - Toronto Centre - hurry up and get going' but we do smile a lot on the journey :D

even worse.... Just a lowly ol' 112.....but a strange one with no birth records on s/n 27 ! Based on a few of the serial number plates on parts around the airplane I wonder if it was a flight tester or a 111 that they hung gear on....we still love Oscar Mike :-) !

That’s staying on top of things Judy! My only experience with Denver Brovo air space is flying a Sky Arrow at 80 knots to Centanial back from Oshkosh after some very smoky conditions. They help out a lot!!

Daytona Beach Approach asked me last week if I could slow to 100 knots. Had the frequency not been so busy I would have launched into a discussion on the virtues of vortex generators.
