Fredericksburg fly-in events

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

At least we aren't suffering Michigan wine... ;)

My trusty Commander has allowed me to sample wine (sic) in most of the fifty states and it is largely the same quality wherever I go; but I know how to control my consumption. When I feel like I'm reaching the point of needing a designated driver, I just reach over and pull my copilot's mike plug out of its jack...

Ken Andrew is rubbing off...

Here are some more updates to our itinerary... It's starting to look pretty exciting! Thanks to JD Casteel of Plane Plastics for coming and adding a session on interiors!

The LBJ Ranch Fly-Out fall out of the itinerary?

There were some insurance issues with flying out to LBJ Ranch. I think a fly out to Llano will be a lot of fun!

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

Great Job on that, Dave. A bit less than half way on the short flight to llano is Enchanted Rock, kind of the Texas version of Ayers Rock in Australia, now known as Uluru. (No, it is not THAT big, but pretty impressive, nonetheless.) Would be worth a quick circuit or two on the way up. On the way back we will be jammed up against the workshop time, methinks.

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

Enchanted Rock good idea,if you plan to do a 360 think of the conga line behind you.Luckenbach,Iconic Town and the birth of the Outlaw Movement Waylon Jennings,Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, just a few miles to the east of 290 is worth a trip for those who have a car and get F-burg on Thursday.Carefull if you blink you miss it.Directions:East on HWY 290 for 8x miles ?,first traffic light at the KOA Campground/Shell Station turn right,go South to Lukenbach.Don`t look for Lukenbach sign`s the town gave up.

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

For those thinking of stopping by Redbird Skyport in San Marcos, they prefer you register in advance on their website or we register as a group http://redbirdskyport.com/flymore/. They will also only fill in primary tanks(up to 200 gallons so we're all covered).

Update, Greg called last night, and LBJ Ranch has agreed to waive the insurance requirement that was a concern.

I will post shortly a copy of the agreement and requirements, which include a copy of the plane's registration, your pilot cert, and medical.

If you can fill those out and have them ready in advance, it will expedite our departure Saturday am.

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

OK, here is the agreement, print and sign, and if you are able to make and bring copies of the plane's registration, your pilot cert, and medical that will save time!

Dave

Sounds real interesting, and thanks for the work in getting the waiver.
Looked at info on line regarding the ranch and it seems like things are pretty spread out.
Do you know what is in close proximity to the runway and what will be accessible?
Is there any transportation to the various points of interest?

It says you can drive around in your own "vehicle..." So....

Seriously, Greg has been in communication with them, so I'll let him chime in. It appears The Texas White House is close, as well as the Show Barn N end of runway. I think Greg mentioned there was a hangar we could see, but again, will let him clarify.

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

Thanks Kevin, that's some nice Wyoming hospitality. I would love to see that nice 114 you have. I have plans to leave tomorrow (Monday) morning after tonight's daily cold front passes. Will have to wait and see how it looks of course. High 40 to 50 knt winds are forecast for tomorrow but if I can get a clear shot out Ill take it.As much as I would love to cash in on a 50-70 knt tail wind I will probably head straight south from here toward Reno NV. because I might catch up with the front on the Rockies. I really don't want to go west over the Rocks unless its clear. Twice this year had to climb to space because it up-slopes the clouds so high. I am not IMC rated yet I'm in training
and once I had to max out the VFR airspace to get over.
As you know the NW as been a circling cesspool of low pressure storms for a week. If I can get 4 or 500 miles south Ill be in good shape. They say it will get better every day its moving east now so maybe tomorrow, or maybe Tuesday I leave I won't rush it.

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

Brian, The WX here is the same and really bad. It is coming from the SW which is unusual for this time of year. Lots of wind and on the coast it was above 60 mph. Setting all kinds of rain records as if we don't get enough already. The snow line is really low also which means lower icing levels.

If you havn't looked at already you might take a look at the Boise - Ogden - Laramie route not so many big rocks but WX could be a problem.

Have fun - It looked like for awhile that I might be going this year but it is not going to work out.

Re: Fredericksburg fly-in events

Darn Frank wish you could go. I like the run to Reno its blocked (the weather) by the Cascade Range and West of the big Rocks. Across the high dessert but a dessert is dry right? It looks like 400 miles and I'm out of this crap I filled her up so I can go to Vegas and beyond if I have to. Will see in the morning. Sounds like late morning is better.
