Was stuck in NW Indiana VPZ by Lake Michigan for the week waiting for the icing conditions and then the storms of last thu & friday to clear.
The N wind was whipping up 10ft waves at the S Shore f Lake michigan near Michigan City IN (MGC) look closely & you'll note the 2 kite surfers in the pic.

Sat Apr 8 was a glorious flying day from beautiful Lake Mich ESE across the Midwest (IN & OH) then the Appalachians in WV and rural Virginia.
The snow on the western Appalachians low peaks is probably due to teh storms on Thu & Fri. The further East valleys are definitely green for the Irish Spring.

114PW managed 180k GS (TAS 155k) @ 9500ft 2300 rpm & 20in Manifold 10 gph near Peak Lean.

Got a great smooth and easy descent in from just East of Richmond to the FAF for R23 at ORF with a touchdown about right distance from Taxi turn-off so no braking was needed.

Thoroughly enjoyed it after the 4 month absence from 114PW.

Re: Flight across the Mid West to the NE

I had to cancel not one but TWO trips last week due to crazy weather ... first tornadoes all across KY trying to get to Nashville and Huntsville, then Icing to the max in MI, OH and PA trying to get to NYC. I usually cancel one or two a year ... cannot believe two in one week. Maximum bummer.

Re: Flight across the Mid West to the NE

Weather has been a little odd in my neck of the woods lately.

This weekend, however, was lovely

Sid,

Nice pictures and sounds like a great trip to knock the dust off the wings!

Wx, it was clear blue and twenty-two at Lakeland this weekend. Slight breeze to keep you honest and 'chilly' nights for camping in mid-Fla . . .:)

Perfect here, too. Looks like the back of winter is finally broken.

Re: Flight across the Mid West to the NE

I flew up from Florida yesterday. I didn't mind the mild chop. It was CAVU all the way up. Stayed low for the headwinds. Happy to be up home. Looking forward to 44N Maint day.

Re: Flight across the Mid West to the NE

Has a date been set for 44N Maint. Day ?

HiSid-Glad your Repeated travels to Indiana (dealing with your 2nd engine rebuild for the past 4 months ) by rental car & Train are over.
As,shared by text, got N112HT back flying last evening just in time for sunset! @ the patch & over the,Tree Farm despite the shear on TOffs. Two Seat of the Tush X wind landings. Had to do 'the Joel Approach Technique' (20 deg Flaps only) to minimize the roller coaster. Scott, we had the Xwind landings challenge discussiona. So won't pontificate. Did get 0.58 Tach Time on the engine, so hope winter is finally over despite recent freezes in the past few days, after the devastating Hailstorm. Uprooted Loblolly Pine with canopy chainsaws off so I could get to the Airport.
BTW, Factory Century I autopilot working again. See post
