Hello Carl,

I am the new owner of a 1976 Commander 114, Serial # 14117, N4797W which is currently based in COS as well as a recent member to the Commander Owners Group. I had a mishap incident with her while I was trying to get my sign off for high performance and complex and the nose gear collapsed doing damage to the nose gear doors as well as some damage to the cowling, prop and assumed damage to the engine. Long story short, I saw that you at one time were working on a cowling project for Commander 112's and 114's.s Were you able to ever make that a viable parts product and is it possible to purchase a cowling from you?
Thanks for your attention in this matter.

Sincerely,

Ron Miller

Welcome and sorry to hear…. Another source of parts for you might also be BAS in Greeley.

Ron, assuming you have considered, fiberglass cowlings can be repaired.

Hey there David, thanks for your reply. Hopefully the shop in COS has someone in mind for fiberglass repair that we can use. I was trying to do some leg work for the shop. Might be easier to let the professionals handle it.
Regards, Ron

I was in Henderson today, having my nose wheel pin replaced and installing the heavy-duty actuator kit from Aerodyme, and got to watch Carl fit a new set of nose gear doors to a Commander that had a nose wheel collapse. The new doors look great!

Carbon Fiber?

Yes, I have a mold to make new cowlings. I've done 5 of them so far. They're universal, made to fit either a 112, or 114, so they require a lot of extra work for each specific application. Also have gear doors for all models.

It can be carbon fiber, or fiberglass. My fiberglass technician has over 30 years experience. He built the original Lancair kits when he was in his 20's. Now he does land speed record cars, rocket drag cars, off road racing trucks, custom track racing cars, camera equipment for Hollywood, still some aircraft parts & cowlings, plus a ton of other stuff.
