Commander Sighting

Had the pleasure of watching N4843W taxi out and take off in KISM Wednesday at about 4pm. It's always brings a smile to my face to watch a beautiful Commander launch into the air.

I of course was working and left shortly there after to KAUS, at a bit higher altitude and slightly faster speed. Although my G280 is extremely nice, there are times I long for the Commander.

Re: Commander Sighting

Concur, and I think they actually look better than when we first acquired them.. 114JA routinely receives compliments while sitting static in the hangar . . Do I sound biased?? Damn right!

Re: Commander Sighting

I am in a large general aviation hanger with about six GA planes and two warbirds that are all based and hankered at the ap, the large hanger is used also for the transit jets that come to the airport and stored overnight or longer and often have a few Lears, Hawkers, King Airs etc parked in the hanger for a short time.

Very often the line guys tell me these Charter Pilots have to ask them what kind of plane mine is and were drooling over it after seeing it, and always a nice compliment for sure as well as flying around to other ap always get compliments too on the Commander.

Even if I had the money for and could justify your jet, I'd still keep the Commander for weekend flyin'.

Re: Commander Sighting

Yep. I flew 42N to Sun-N-Fun this year, and camped with the airplane. It got to be funny, hearing all the people walking by commenting on what a great-looking airplane it is. Often, they would stop and walk al the way around it to get a better look. One guy even came over (I recognized his Aussie accent from the night before) and asked for a "tour" of the airplane. Of course, I was happy to oblige. And any time I was sitting by the plane, I would get lots of drop-by visitors. Almost got to be embarrassing...

Commanders are always best looking airplanes on the ramp - even when they still need a headliner and a few other odds and ends to be up to "COGer" standards... (Yeah, Judy, I'm still planning to do the interior someday. Just having too much fun getting to know her at the moment. Starting to work on my instrument rating.)

Re: Commander Sighting

Hi Doug ... did not expect that to be me you saw. Waited out the storms for 2 hours ... several of us including the Cirrus driver behind me ... heading north and finally saw a gap to get over to the east coast then north. Funny ... as soon as I decided to go, several others came out behind me. Felt like the pied piper and hoped I was not overly-influencing any rookies.

Orlando Approach then Jax Approach were both fantastic helping navigate around the cells that covered most of the state to the north. From Savanna north, not a thing until the DC area where the ceiling began dropping. On the ADS-B watched Lancaster PA KLNS drop from 1600' to 1200' to 800' ... shot the ILS 8 at 10 PM in the rain and uneventful touchdown. broke out at 450' so the AWOS was considerably behind. When I tied down, vis was less than 1/2. I think another 15-20 minutes and I would have spent the night somewhere else to the north.

Very challenging flight on both ends but able to complete very safely. One of those, "Yeah, I guess I am a pilot" days.

Re: Commander Sighting

So finally some 'bearable' flying days in the Mid-Atlantic. Saturday flew to FME '@the DC Mulberry BUSH'. (Duyai Bush BS).Car behind locked gates fir 2 years. Glad N112HT at MTN. Remember how long it took to get the 1205 out code.

Anyway HWY-FME 11 controllers, no class B. No info from controllers to controllers until my SFRA 'Wooly GATE' entry.

And look what was waiting for me after 15 years since N112HT at FME : Butt, no Bunns around and no Bunn seen lately by Tipton staff.

Yesterday, after 6 FSS puter hangups, filing the SFRA flight plan and calling Potomac TRACON, finally got an SFRA Squawk code out . They wanted me to call on 132.43 rather than 119.7. So at 4ft, gear up I call and he said call 119.7.

We flew over to GED to see my/our Nephew & family. Last time GED 2003. Many changes to the WW2 field, new Terminal, restaurant - run by folks who had restaurant across open mall from my sisters Rehoboth Beach gift store.
Nephew Nate picked us up with grand nephew Javien (3.5), wearing I planes T shirt and kept saying my tail #s as I taught him how to tie down.
GED 1990 took Nephews Nate &Ben for 1st flights.

Tonite flew back. So 3 days in a row N112HT commuter bird.
Parked across from 098J. Jim you around? Will head back down to HWY tomorrow or Thursday. Sid&I trying to link. Still have that pesky oil weep. Got to solve, real nuscience.
Twenty five years.ago. How TIME and N112HT fly by!

Re: Commander Sighting

Sherman,
Off subject, but I like your 'Red' wing-walk extension on the flaps. I had a 2" stencil made reading "NO STEP" that I've sprayed white on my black flap area. It would look great on your Red area. Just a thought . .

Re: Commander Sighting

Hi John- Perfect! You coming to K15?

Those stick ons Mark made flew off due to the wing walk grit, and Scott (Sedam) didn't like the idea of the Surfer foot (60s gas pedal) Logo with a Circle (0)with / thru the 0.

So I figured this was the best option. Did have to spray several times to get it even, and still a light spot or two. Thanks for noticing my 'Rustoleum Mod'

Re: Commander Sighting

Had a wonderful flight down to Key West today. Unlimited visibility made a always fun trip fantastic! Upon arrival I noticed another Commander drawing all the attention on the ramp. It's was N1977J, flew in for an animal rescue mission. It's was a pleasure to be able to see Pat and Kiko for a brief couple of minutes. Been years since our last encounter.
Fly safe

Re: Commander Sighting

Must be a beautiful flight to KW. The missus and I fly commercial into Miami just about every February, rent a convertible, top down and take a beautiful ride down US one to our favourite place, the Casa Marina and hang out. I always goggle the ramp at Marathon to see if I see any Commanders and once you get south of there, a whole new world of relaxation starts. We did go up in a biplane two years ago for a hop around the keys and it was a riot.

Right now, if operations would plow the ramp I would be able to get my Commander out and go for a flight
