Any updates? I would love to get our schedule and overnight stops (Nashville or Memphis) locked in for September.
I only mention this because I am working on a get-away to Laurel MS for next week ( 2nd attempt) and watching weather might have us head north to Bar Harbor ME instead. My Bride does not like flying through the really bad weather so I'm planning for two totally different locations. Oh the joys of flight planning and locking in the destination logistics.![]()
Seems like a fine location, easy for us ‘flatlanders’.
It's also not bad for the folks on the west coast. If people aren't comfortable flying the passes/mountains - there are routes north and south that provide lower terrain to get east of the Rockies.

If any one wants a mountain flying checkout before the event let me know. I am a CFI that used to be based in Colorado and have lots of experience in the passes and mountains there in a commander.

If I were closer to you, I'd take you up on that offer.
A few ways to go from Phoenix. Joel mention going through Gunnison and then through monarch pass. If I go, and the weather looks good and winds aloft are playing nice, I may get to high altitude and try that route. If not, I may cross the mountains a little south of Pueblo where there is an opening, and go up the front range.
