Whoa, THE Jekyl Island Resort! That’s pretty HIGH FALUTIN’ for us domestic beer drinkin’ union-type blue-collar Commander folks! I have stayed on Jekyl Island and overlooked this resort beauty from the nearby adjacent MOTEL 6 I was staying at but never “resorted” there personally. Glenn and Bob musta got a last minute deal when the TBM or Pilatus fly-in people cancelled because their groups’s still afraid the China virus is gonna get their pedigree poodles. Good going picking that up. Skylane fly-in people you snooze you lose! I am in!

I still want to go to that French Lick place in Indiana sometime though. Looked cool.

Jay,

I absolutely agree with you. I got a hotel quote but am close enough to fly in each day and save the cash and get to fly more..

Thinking about offering at my place a rendezvous point before we enter the "high rent district". Up to Thursday night and then we all stay at Jekyll Friday and Saturday.

Unlimited camping with pool and showers , two extra bedrooms but you would have to qualify, hangar space for the first six Commanders. Bowser for "cost effective" fuel, local motels with transportation, Thursday night a bloody great BBQ where you could meet the local natives (EAA).

I don't want to mess up any plans in place with the hotel, Grand Oaks is 162 nm for Jekyl and slightly North. 4 nm from PZD on the 345 radial.

Just 16 nm South East of Grand Oaks is the old Turner Field Airforce base, later NAS Albany, Now the Miller Coors brewing plant, I am sure that I could arrange a tour so you can see for yourselves how Milwaukee's Best beer is made with re-cycled water.

Open to ideas and thoughts.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Ken, that would be much fun. Let's do it. Curious about your math ... 162 NM, that's going to be 1.5 hours by the time you are done. so, going in for Friday and Saturday, that's 6 hours flight time. The hotel I think was $169/night, or $340? Maybe with taxes and such it will be $400. Can you really fly that bird for $65/hour? Plus you miss an additional 6 hours with your Commander brethren. Value of that? PRICELESS!

Ken, this is a most generous offer, very kind of you & sounds like a grand time. Not committing yet, but ...... is this your place?

Charlie, that is my place 18-36 is 4650' and the cross wind 06-24 is 2000'...

Scott, I am looking for a reason to fly as I am behind this year so far. No drive to and from the airport in my case. Probably will spent Sat night on site so I can have wine with dinner.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Chuck, I had mentioned the other fly- in that is scheduled for the same week as the Commander event. These are separate events and they are 215 miles apart. The attraction of the Triple Tree fly-in is the 7000 foot grass runway with camping ⛺️ facilities.
I only brought it up because it is scheduled for the same week and if I go it’s a 1,000 mile trip each way, so why not include two activities? If you like the variety of aircraft at an event such as Sun-N-Fun or Airventure,
( without the vendors ) you would enjoy Triple Tree.
The year I attended, the Cessna Cardinal association had quite a presence. Aircraft type vary from Pietenpols to P51’s. Understandably, the southeast part of the U.S. seems to have quite a bit of General Aviation activity.

There is a reason we call it "the Commander Owners Group" fly in. A chance to meet and socialize with other commander owners and learn some new things about our birds.

Pete,
Sounds good!...I'll be flying in on Wednesday then...and only a few beers? :p lol

I need to change my dates to avoid any conflict with the golf day on Thursday. So to use my place as a rendezvous point for those arriving early. Wont do a BBQ but there are plenty of places to eat.

Set up a driving range on the crosswind runway, and you'll get all the golfers showing up on Wednesday. :)

We have a 9 hole course but it is Metric and most American golfers get confused,

life is a barrel of fun.

Signed up today with a planned Wednesday arrival. I am definitely interested in the golf. I will be getting a Red Bug for transportation. Just need course and tee times.

We are registered and really looking forward to it! In talking to the resort today, currently they don't have capacity to shuttle from the airport. They're only providing a shuttle between the two resorts. Thankfully, it looks like Red Bug is right on the airfield?

Must either be a Covid or staffing issue- when we stayed there in 19 they had a shuttle that picked us up at the airport.

Exactly. She said it was due to both.

I am hoping to attend. Right now I am in negotiations with my wife - if we go to the fly in then I have to agree to take her on an off-setting trip. I only have a limited time that I can be away from my businesses, so I am really in a situation.

I am looking at a long weekend in Big Bend or Sante Fe and then that will allow me to attend the fly in.
