2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Time fo the Turbo folks to learn about leaning for takeoff.
As far as the restaurant goes I bet someone on the site a beer, that it wouldn't make the opening date or be available for the fly in. Now if I could only remember who it was to collect.

Please put Sandy & me down as in for golf.

PHOTOGRAPHERS NEEDED AT SEDONA

We're looking for a few photography buffs who would like to take some candid photos in and around the Sedona Airport, the Poco Diablo Resort, the Sedona Golf Resort during the Annual COG Golf Tourney, and other events occurring at the Sedona Fly-In.

Your digital photos may very well appear on the "Big Screen" for an entertaining Slide Show at the conclusion of our event.

If you're interested, please send me a PM or reply on this thread.

Thank you,

Hey Vince, we have professional Nikon equipment with huge lenses, but, it may tip our gross weight. Ha. But, I will bring the little pocket Nikon camera.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Did a short SEZ pre-flyin check-out yesterday... Actually, just stopped to visit my old Bonanza mechanic who now works for a helicopter outfit there. Seemed like a good excuse.

Locals say the restaurant is not open yet and they're not sure that it will be open by next month... Hope they are wrong; would be nice to have it available...

Nothing else special to report other than by my departure at 11:00 AM the Density Altitude was 7700'. Should be a little cooler by late September, but everyone please think about your airplane's performance for this event. Plan an early departure if you have any doubts.

I landed on 03 (uphill) and departed on 21 (downhill). Uncontrolled field, so that is a normal thing to do unless winds or traffic are bad. We may be the traffic issue since there are quite a few Commanders scheduled.

It was a beautiful day and and the red rocks were, as usual, awe inspiring. If you have been there before, you know. If not, you have a treat in-store. Bring your camera.

Alan

Alan, that is excellent advise. And, you are right, normally land uphill and take-off downhill. September should be the most beautiful time of the year in SEZ. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Oh! Oh! It was me! It was me!

I'll take that free beer!

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

If they get it opened I will probably be on the hook for a bunch of beer. I am sure you won't be the only one claiming to be the original bettor.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Hope you're right Carl, but if not, you can always get an "Architectural artist rendering" of that free beer!

Well, what's life without a little optimism?

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Well, we are about 90% sure we are going to have to cancel. Elevator is still under repair, they expect to ship it this Thursday (which never means this Thursday....), it'll take most of a week to get it back and a day to install it. 114BL is still in annual, which should complete with no surprises, but you never know what they'll dig up at the last minute.

So if all goes best case, I'd get the plane on the 15th, but have weekend plans 16th through the 18th, work commits... And not going to make the first hop in the plane in over 6 months the first leg to AZ.

We looked at commercial flights, but that kind of takes the sizzle out of the fly in! So... still thinking, but not likely at this point.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Play it as it comes David. You might get lucky and have everything come together (literally) sooner than anticipated.

Hope it will work out and you can join us.

You wouldn't be the only one flying commercial this year (or prior years).

Remember, it's all about the destination, not the journey.

(Or, as they say in your part of the country, "it don't matter how y'all get there, just get there".)

Frank,

Get it straight. It's "git", not "get" ;)

Yes, I should have posted earlier, as the restaurant had its Grand Opening on schedule, the day after Labor Day.
