2010 cog fly-in location

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

now Scott I resemble that last remark. LOL hate your not going to make itl Have fun down under though.
Scott, Not to worry! Ian and I will do our best to control the beast. I'm making a fresh batch of home brew to feed Lonnie. One glass and he'll be as mellow as a garden slug.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

I wouldn't count on that Jay!! We tried doing that in Alaska. His drawl just gets worse and he starts to giggle like a little girl.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Just registered and hoping to arrive in the area on the Thursday. Hoping for a ride to the field. Is the offer still open from Ian Cairns?

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Rob where are you arriving? ATL - Atlanta or some other major airport?
If Atlanta instead of a laddie (Ian C) a Midlander Ken Andrew is offering a pickup from a general aviation field near Atlanta that's a subway ride away PDK Peachtree-Dekalb from Epps Aviation - then a 1 hr or less flight to Albany Georgia where he lives and then into Jekyll Island (1 hr away) the next day.

However Thursday will pose a problem because most want to be in Jekyll Island Thu so we may have to check who else may get you in Atlanta Thu and bring you in directly to Jekyll Island - so please tell us arrival time in the USA.

Look forward to seeing you.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

hi Thanks for that. Will try to get there for Wednesday instead. Watch this, well actually a later space....you know what I mean

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Rob,

Someone will pick you up at ATL, but there is a cost involved.
96 Oxo cubes, two 250g jars of Marmite, 480 Tetley teabags. A jar of pickled onions and a pound of Cheshire cheese would be nice but may get you arrested.

You will be so pi$$ed off after going through all the so called security to enter the USA. Finger prints, eye prints , pictures, dna, pornographic pictures of you taken through your clothing.

We all need to exchange mobile phone numbers.
Me. 229 407-0200
I do have a place for you to stay.

Bring you licence and log book.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Ken Andrew

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Hilton Head has ample parking and have several hotels nearby, they also give fuel discounts on the weekend.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

What is the nearest/most convenient airport with commercial service?
Or is there someone I can catch a ride with

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Brunswick, GA (BQK). not sure who else, but Delta for one.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Rick,

You find a way to get close and we'll come get you!!!!

Rick,

Absolutely!!

Rick,

Savannah (SAV) and Jacksonville (JAX) are somewhat larger commercial facilities than Brunswick and may offer better fares. Hard to tell these days. Include them in your search, but wherever you go, know that you will have your choice of shuttles to Jekyll. I'd come get you but I think I may have actually persuaded my spousal unit to join me this year. You might exceed her baggage allowance. :-O Still pending though, keep me posted on your plans.

Note to all attending- I called Red Bug about a car rental and was told all they rent are the beach buggy things that cannot be driven of the island. They aren't cheap either. $50-$150/day. If you need a real vehicle suggest you call Amanda at Golden Isle Aviation (SSI) 912-638-8617. She was very helpful http://www.goldenislesaviation.com I have rented a full size for Lonnie and I. We'll drop the wives off and have them drive the short distance to Jekyll. (they probably don't want to be in the plane for our arrival anyway.... :)

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

There some off course flight here:

The Red Bug people have agreed to ALSO rent us regular cars for a discount rate - let them know its for the Commander group and that the Red Bug company owner has sanctioned that.

Note folks the Red Bugs are street leagal but limited to 35mph so are great for jekyll Island but not off island for which regular cars are needed.

Will investigate and post response of Red Bug rental company

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

If anyone needs a ride from the Jacksonville Airport, I'll can pick them up and drive them to jekyll. I live in St. Marys,GA (4j6) about 20 minutes away via auto. Either e-mail (hilsonk@tds.net) or call 912-882-8055.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Snapped a couple of photos on my way from SSI back to Miami yesterday. Looks like good ramp space. I counted roughly 8 aircraft on the ramp...

SSI has fuel and is only a few minutes to thenorth. Great FBO if anyone needs to stop there for fuel.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Hi Guys.
I'm now registered and booked into the Hotel. Arriving Thursday at JAX. Thanks for advice. Have e-mailed you Ian.

Is Haggis allowed in the baggage? Irn Bru? Will bring licenses, log book, medical and head set...water purification tabs, comfort blanket. tooth brush, what else? Willing to run some whisky as a prize for the cleanest airplane?).

And I have to ask about Alligators. Is this one of those places where you don't go near the water cos something might eat you?

And Sid.. made up for not going to Faroes/Iceland by getting some excellent pics fairly locally - some now in the Owners Gallery.

mob is 07595911175 or e-mail rjrother@btinternet.com as I can prob get that on my phone too
