    Commander On Grass...

Re: Commander On Grass... Like Fred I've operated off a fair number of short grass strips in Europe. It's worth considering what's in the way after take-off as well...trees and buildings spring to mind and the length of take-off roll varies a lot from to day to day. I've also found the...

    Slow down sister

Re: Slow down sister sort of related... I was approaching Newcastle at night with layers of stratus and rain and talking to a newby tower controller on the radio. Then had an E.T. / Speilberg experience as the air lit up around me with lights passing to my right as the 757 went around. I had no...

    AOPA Webinar on Cuba

Re: AOPA Webinar on Cuba Just picked up on this thread. Will be in Havana in a few days with my son and looking forward to it. The advice seems to be to take cash that isn't USD as there's an exchange penalty of 10% on top of the rate offered. Might be better to buy euros or pounds or...

First I've seen ice in the wild . . .

Re: First I've seen ice in the wild . . . Hi Sid, So how effective are the de-ice foils, as in how fast a buildup will they stop;light, or moderate? Has anyone had the retrofitted? I have to say I enjoyed that magical moment when you start to descend. The ice flies off like silvery fish...

First I've seen ice in the wild . . .

Re: First I've seen ice in the wild . . . My experience has been the same that ice seems to be no problem up to half and inch or so. With that weight the plane seems still able to climb at 150 - 200 feet a minute above 8000' and I distinctly remember one icy day climbing to FL120 and minus 18 C...

    KMVY, Saturday, Dec 12

Re: KMVY, Saturday, Dec 12 "On a trip like above how do you address the overwater survival equipment? Or do you? Just curious . . . " I do a bit of open water flying. Anyone planning trips beyond gliding range might want to do some immersion training, including opening a life raft and turning...

Flying in Texas vs. Flying in Europe

Re: Flying in Texas vs. Flying in Europe of course, if you superimpose a big state like Alaska (as opposed to cute little Texas) then that's probably the entire European land mass covered ;-)

Flying in Texas vs. Flying in Europe

Re: Flying in Texas vs. Flying in Europe one economic advantage worth knowing is that you can claim back the fuel tax if the flight is beyond the national border. For example, if we fly from the UK to France the fuel and oil tax can be refunded and there is a lot of tax. Does the same thing...

Re: Safety Alert Jim, G-OOJP is clean. I recall hearing that some owners had difficult to trace water leaks. Would that account for this ?

    UK Fly-in 26th April 14?

Re: UK Fly-in 26th April 14? Hi Lawrence, The Pilots' Mess is great with an authentic and efficient feel. The art deco style of the whole place is very appealing. Shame about the weather though. It was good to meet you Finn. I have some photos and will get round to posting them asap. Did...
