2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Since Sept. 23 is our fifth wedding anniversary, and we will be celebrating it in Sedona at the Fly-In, my husband said I can buy anything I want. Actually, he knows I would do that anyway. So, anyone interested in going to Tlaquepaque http://www.tlaq.com/ and or nearby galleries on Friday afternoon. Please let me know. And, for those guys who adore their wives and wish for them to have everything, send them with me. I will make sure they get everything they want. Love ya!

Yikes! Been there, done that, and the "t-shirts" continue to hang on our walls. Going to try to avoid that performance again. You're going to have some fun shopping. Rob mebbe less so... ;-)

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Hi Guys

We are going to miss again this year, 7 7ears straight we made it, now 2 in a row we cannot

Our best friend's daughter is getting married that weekend

A word of advise to all to try to play in the Poco Diablo golf outing, in 2005 it was a riot. Jim Bunn's comment about Jesus shoes was hilarious

Have fun and fly safe

Rick and Mare

P.S If any one is stopping through Omaha on the way down or back, give me a call

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

I understand "breakfast" Coronas are the appropriate beverage choice for golf day! :D

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Hydraulic breakfast and snacks are the rule of the day.....at the fly in anyway.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Did a short SEZ pre-flyin check-out yesterday... Actually, just stopped to visit my old Bonanza mechanic who now works for a helicopter outfit there. Seemed like a good excuse.

Locals say the restaurant is not open yet and they're not sure that it will be open by next month... Hope they are wrong; would be nice to have it available...

Nothing else special to report other than by my departure at 11:00 AM the Density Altitude was 7700'. Should be a little cooler by late September, but everyone please think about your airplane's performance for this event. Plan an early departure if you have any doubts.

I landed on 03 (uphill) and departed on 21 (downhill). Uncontrolled field, so that is a normal thing to do unless winds or traffic are bad. We may be the traffic issue since there are quite a few Commanders scheduled.

It was a beautiful day and and the red rocks were, as usual, awe inspiring. If you have been there before, you know. If not, you have a treat in-store. Bring your camera.

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Geez Alan what is that a 65 mile hop.:) I know you just couldn't wait to be the first one there

Re: 2011 Sedona Fly-In News

Good words of advice Alan. Density altitude is going to be an issue for the flat-landers to watch. So is the unusual visual perspective for those unfamiliar with sloped runways. Last Sedona gathering, I was talking w/ Phil Boyer (former AOPA poobah) and he had to depart before 0630 to maintain balanced field length. After that, the temps/density alt would ground him (flying AOPA's jet). Landing on the USS Sedona doesn't have to be a big deal, but those unfamiliar should thoroughly brief/review before joining in the fun.

Very easy to flood an engine during start too...been there done that at Los Alamos prior to the Fredricksburg fly-in a couple of years back. I learned to lean pretty quick.

Speaking of Los Alamos, DA was 9500' when we landed (Sven, Radu, me) with a very nasty 90* x-wind. First time I ever landed at full throttle...on one wheel to boot.
