Gas Spring Door Stays

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Carl, There are some out here (me!) who would like to purchase ALL your items! Any chance you could "bundle" the door stays kit and your leg lights kit (unpainted) at a somewhat lower total price? Perhaps 1 AMU for both kits; of course, purchased together? Think about it...
Regards, Alan

Hi Alan,

I've already considered that. Once the baggage door is done I will come up with something. I'm sure a lot of people will want to take care of it all at once.

There is nothing to see in pictures the baggage door system is hidden within the door.

-> Really? Is this for older model 112's as well? I am trying to mentally picture how that would work?

Thanks, Dave

The baggage door kit is the same for all models.

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Hi Willem,

I spoke with the FAA on Wed. last week. They said they are going to issue the STC this week. If all goes well I should be able to start shipping this week or next.

Where are you based? I will have to have the parts tagged for shipment to your country. Please email me directly so we can discuss the details of this. carlrobinlee@msn.com

Thanks,

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Carl,
What about shipping to the UK? Would I be allowed to fit these myself? I'm not a complete klutz but is this something that the pilot could do...

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

The last time I shipped to the UK it cost around $60 and took 30 days to clear customs.

They are fairly easy to install, but I am not sure how GA is governed in the UK. I assume they would need to be supervised or inspected?

Email me directly and I'll get you some more info. carlrobinlee@msn.com

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

I talked with the FAA this morning. They assured me they have everything they need, but it will take another week to process.

Oh well! Almost there.

Congrats Carl!

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Great news. I checked out the website. Which one is for a 114B?

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

The 114B is described as "Commander Late Model Gas Spring Door Kit"
You can confirm by serial number before you order.

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Well done and congratualtions...looking forward to getting our set.

Congrats Carl!! Glad to see the 114 drivers can make use of this great mod. One the the Best mods out there besides the gear lights! BTW I just installed the Whelen lights in them and they fit like a glove. Hope to see everyone in Sedona.

Jimmy me boy! You are coming? I thought you couldn't make it this year. What great news!

Say,... you may appreciate I celebrated the CG's birthday @ Chicamacomico Life Saving Station. Great restoration effort going on there. They demo'd the Lyle Gun (altho had to use a bosun's chair instead of breeches which was undergoing some conservation work), surf boat launch rescue and even a chopper rescue. Nice re-enactment day if a bit on the warmish side. 98F w/ low winds.

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

I just wanted to put out a word of caution. I have seen a lot of people with their door stays installed backwards. They should be installed as pictured with the rod end attached to the door jam and the cylinder end attached to the door. This is done so that when the plane is parked the fluid in the cylinder "rests" or "pools" against the seal. Your door stays will last much longer this way.

These are now flying on nearly 100 aircraft, have been out for nearly 3 years and I have only had 1 reported failure.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback, and let me know if I can help any of you in any way.
