Made a run down to Houston to pick up my 26 year old daughter for a visit home for the weekend. Flew into West Houston KIWS. Always good to get the only daughter home for a couple of days.

Our friends just headed down to Myrtle Beach, for them a ten and a half our drive. Mary and I both just rolled our eyes and said could not do that drive, fly time in the 112, 2.5 hours.
Great weekend - ended up flying her down to College Station TX (Texas A&M) to meet up with her husband and their friends. For some reason, the Tropical Storm Beta snuck up on me - I checked the weather Sunday morning and was very surprised that the leading wave of it was already onshore. Not sure how I missed this in the news. Anyway, I made some adjustments to our departure time and flight planning, and got her delivered.
Once I got about 100 NM south of Gladewater TX, I got into solid IMC and ended up flying the RNAV 35 approach into College Station. Although it was IMC with moderate rain, there was zero convective activity and it was some of the most benign and pleasant IMC you could ever hope for. I alternated between AP and hand flying, and fell in love all over again with my Commander. It had been awhile since I did anything other than fly through layers on climb to get on top or decent to land, and I once again was reminded how stable and easy to fly our great airplanes are.
Thanks Bill. She, and I missed all of you as well. I considered pressing on, but with a failed vac pump, and the haze making it practically IMC it was a little beyond my limits.
