Starter Problem in the Bahamas Mike Faust n5909n mfaust@arjaynet.com
Started having some problems starting my 114A when hot. Relays will chatter but it will start. Thinking problem was the starter installed new Skytec starter, new battery was installed with annual done in December, but problems continues. In route to Bahamas (Cat Island), flew to CPAC in Cape Giradeau only to have them tell me to replace the new (maybe bad) Skytec starter. So spend the night installed new starter. Naturally plane started because it was cold, and we headed to the Bahamas. I would have taken plane around pattern a few times, but ceiling was about 800ft and we wanted to get going and everyone assured me that this fixed problem. Stopped for fuel in Albany GA, and trying starting Hot again and problem is back. Now we are at Cat Island and I am a little concerned that problem could move to a cold start as well. Did a search on web board and several of you made some very good commends about wiring and connections. Because problem is temperature depend I am thinking I should be checking the electrical connections of the engine back to the bus to the negative of the battery. Can anyone tell me where to look on a 114A where the engine is grounded to the bus?
