Compression conundrum Frank Sapienza FS sapienza@noesys.com

Compression readings at annual ...

2006: #1 70/80, #2 70/80, #3 68/80, #4 74/80, #5 67/80, #6 70/80

2007: #1 78/80, #2 78/80, #3 76/80, #4 75/80, #5 77/80, #6 77/80

Riddle me this Batman, why did the readings get better after a year of flying?

a) Coked up valves were burned clean by flying higher RPM, leaner mixture, and new plugs .vs. the previous owner's habits.

b) The use of AvBlend oil additive at the last two oil changes.

c) Readings at 2007 were hot, readings at 2006 may have been cold (no way to verify).

d) 2006 was done in California, 2007 at CGI.  Thinner air on the west coast?

e) None of the above.

f) Some combination of the above.

g) Who the heck knows?  Just be happy that a top doesn't appear necessary right now.  Oil consumption has been 1qt every 10 or 12 hours since I bought the airplane.
