I bought N1484J about 6 months ago and the engine has always had a rpm surge in it.  I can adjust the RPMs and MP and eliminate the surging.  It is worst at full power on take offs.  Is this normal?   Any suggestion what action I should take?  N1484J has a three blade prop with less that 500 hours and the engine had a MOH about 1100 hours ago.  However, I feel that I am using more oil that I should be.  Last week, I had to have the AP look at the engine due to having oil on the cowling.  He said it was because the seal between the engine halves came out.
