Alternator question Joel Schwartz Commander91gm commander91gm@cs.com I replaced the prop last week and since I had it apart I replaced the Alternator belt just for good measure. After getting everything back together I noticed that alternator was pretty close to the lower cowling. The new belt was the same part number as the old but slightly longer ($40 from Spruce and made in Korea).
Option is to pull the prop again (UGGH) or my thought is to replace the alternator with one of the ones from Plane Power. Their lightweight alternator appears smaller than the chrysler.

Can anyone confirm that it is smaller?

I figure the cost to pull the prop would be a couple of hundred bucks in labor and since the alternator has not been done for a few years I could include the costs associated with the rebuild in my justification.

The new one is about $500 bucks and if it slightly smaller I think it might be better than pulling the new prop off and I figure it is almost a wash cost wise.

Appreciate any info you folks can provide.
