Corroded wing spars Geoffrey Denman geoff geoff@flyinghorse.co.uk G-NATT (1979 114A) is in for her annual at the moment. Most of it has been OK, but the engineers have found exfoliative corrosion in the tops of the main spars of both wings, near the gear attachments and caused by stress from those attachments.

The right isn't too bad, but the corrosion on the left looks like it's too thick to just grind away.

Has anybody else had this problem and, if so, what did you do about it? Most of the comments I've seen have praised the effectiveness of the Commander's corrosion proofing, and considering the age of the aircraft, we haven't had much trouble either up until now. However, this does look like being a significant (i.e. expensive) problem to deal with, and any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.
