Oil change Radu Rotaru rotarur rotarur@gmail.com
My mechanic is driving me crazy, I have left the plane with him a few days back to have an oil change. He keeps whining he cannot open the drain plug at the bottom of the case and he doesn't want to force his luck and damage something. I was busy all week and did not have time to stop-by and take a look at it. Therefore I looked at the maintenance manual and noticed there is supposed to be an oil drain valve at the bottom of the crankcase, a push-pull type of valve. I told him about it but he said he does not see one. I finally drove to the airport today and took a look under the cowling and sure enough there is no valve but a drain plug only. Am I missing something here? Now he's talking about bringing someone with a torch to try to heat-up the crank so he will be able to take the plug out. I think that is insanity what he wants to do and asked for a timeout till I get some feedback from you, almighty Commander gods.
