OK, here's one to ask the group.
Over the last few months I have noticed that almost always, when I am on short final, there is a sudden sharp "ping" sound that *appears* to come from the direction of the left wing. This is exactly the sound I produce if I tap the wing or the flap sharply with my finger, and is very different from the sound of tapping the fuselage. Both my mechanic and I have looked all over the wing and everywhere else for anything that appears loose or that might cause this, to no avail. I have wondered if this results from metal "dimpling" as outside air pressure increases but the fuel vents ought to prevent that, right? Any other thoughts on this?
