Greetings! So yes, since I installed the new engine Monitor, I get 10 GPH at 65% power, at 2200 RPM. It seems that at lower RPM, the tit is lower. I keep my tit at 1700 or below, and 65% normally gives me 1650-1675. Other owners use more fuel to keep the TIT even lower. Some say they run their turbos in the 1600's, which of course is going to increase the fuel flow. My turbo was Nitrated by Western skyways, and they said they have great success with this procedure, and told me not to worry about the tit temps with the nitrating process, but they couldn't tell me to run it above the Manufactures limits, for obvious reasons. Rockwell has a max of 1725 for the TIT, but says "for longer turbo life, run the turbo at 1700 or below". At 65%power, I flight plan for 138 knots at 12000 feet. at 75%power, I burn 13 gallons per hour and get 148 knots...BTW, the new engine monitor was much more accurate so I'm able to fine turn the engine...the old monitor wasn't telling me the truth, and reported much higher TIT's...Also note, the TO-360 is a carbonated engine and cannot be run LOP. Any other questions, give me a call at 618-558-7897... Also note that my mission has changed, so I just sold the Commander and bought a Columbia 400.... I'd say the commander vs a Columbia is like a 707 vs the Concorde... As much as I like the speed and range of the Columbia, I miss the Looks and Room of the Commander
Hi Philip: I'd love to show you my commander, but the engine is out for rebuilding now, and I'm in Utah. I can however put in touch with another friend of mine, who, also owns a 114. He also saw my airplane and he was sold on it, and bought a 114. His airplane is based in Greenville also. Let me know and if you want to see it, give me a call at 618-558-7897....Al Judge
Do you have another email or contact? When I try and email you back to the email you sent me it never goes through.

The one that is currently on your airplane can be rebuilt. I have done mine a number of times. For rebuild options contact Main turbo

Thank you. Actually I am looking for a diagram that shows part numbers. I need bolts that connect the support bracket to the turbocharger and bolts that tie the turbocharger to the exhaust pipe. I appreciate your help.

Hi Joel. I’m looking for some miscellaneous nuts, screws, eylets and washers. I’ve checked with Aircraft Spruce and they were no help. I have part numbers. If I can’t locate any could I use stainless steel. They will be used on non critical areas.ie. Cowling areas.
Hi Kate, I also have a 112A Hot Shot... When I purchased the plane the current AP had the RPMs set low at 2560RPM max... Therefore, the plane was slow to lift off and climb was poor 300-500fpm. After speaking with Carl I had rpm adjusted to 2700RPM... It changed everything!!!

My setup: Similar to Short Field Takeoff
1. Hold brakes
2. 10 degrees Flaps
3. Prop full forward producing 2700RPMs
4. Full Throttle and Fuel Pump ON
5. Manifold Pressure 30' inches.
6. Let off brakes and ground roll to 65-70kts rotate.
7. Climb at 75-80kts.
8. Retract gear as recommended.
9. Retract flaps after Im in positive climb and 700ft AGL or when safe.
10. Manifold Pressure 30' for 3 minutes then back to 28.5 inches and 2700RPMs all the way to altitude.

At Flight Level
Close Cowl flaps
Fuel Pump OFF
Cruise Set-Up 2450RPM and 25.5 MP this is 73%HP on my JPI 830, burning 10.6-11.5gph.

This will give me approximately 900fpm to 1000fpm (sometimes I get 1100fpm) depending on how much fuel and payload. Usually, I am flying alone I'm 205lbs or with one passenger 115lbs.. 30lbs luggage... I like to fly with 48-50 gallons only. This is fine for most of my missions.

The major changes for performance and take-off was once I changed the RPM's to 2700. The plane became totally a different plane to fly. It has great power, performance and economy. Plus, very comfortable. Hope this helps you... I was in the same quandary as you. Enjoy flying...

Good to hear from you. My repair was a great success. I have photos of the progressive fiberglass work and what the damage was before the repair but I do not have photos of the final repair. I will take some tomorrow and sent them to you. I will attach the fiberglass construction photos.

I just had one side of the cowling screw hole break and we caught it before it did much damage. Yours was much worse. Your pictures will help us with our fix. Thanks.
Carl, I have a small fiberglas fix to do on my upper cowling. What materials would you suggest? Was thinking West System 105 and 205 hardener.. What cloth would you use? Thanks

For minor to moderate repair work any type of fiberglass material is fine. Almost any modern materials will ne better than the original material you're working to repair.
Hi Ken, I need to make a small fiberglass repair under my top cowling. What materials would you recommend? Was thinking standard E-glass tape 2inch and West System 105 epoxy resin and 205 hardener... from Aircraft Spruce. Thanks for your advise.

Darren, unfortunately I have no experience with fiberglass repair. The TC drivers have to work on cowling all the time. You may want to look into a boat repair shop. They deal in fiberglass every day.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Bill, I have the same calling issue. Just came out of annual and 5 hours later... Cowling screw and brackets broke!!! Can you send me a picture of yours so I can see how they were fixed. Thanks
Rob's induction system us missing a few parts, but still worth what he's asking. I can help you fill in the missing blanks.
Hi Kelly, my name is Matt McClean. I’ve been looking at Commanders as a potential next aircraft. I’ve tried to go look at one several times but it hasn’t worked out yet. I was wondering if you would be willing to let me come take a look at your aircraft. I live in Springfield. Please let me know.
Regards,
Matt

Hi Judi,

I forwarded my confirmation emails for the COG Fly-In for both hotel and fly-in attendance to your email address.

My 112tc has been at Reno's Classic aviation for 4 month. They are trying to figure out if there is a "speed switch" for the landing gear. The ferry pilot said that he could not retract the gear. Does any one know what might be the issue. It was previous on jack's at Fallon for the annual and had no issues with the landing gear working. Thanks Tom Luczak cell 818 414 6680
Greetings señor Paez,
I am new to commanders and currently living in Costa Rica. I wonder if I might trouble you to look at your plane: I have never actually seen one. Maybe even fly if weather permits. I would be happy to buy your fuel. We are living on Lake Arenal, so a bit of a drive, but my schedule is pretty flexible, if you are amiable

Best Regards
Phil
Hey Joel,
My plane is in for annual right now. I asked about adding the light for the gear pump you had mentioned previously. The shop asked if there was a schematic or if I had any additional information to share about how I wanted it connected. I figured it would be on the down side of the pump since it runs in two directions. Id is something that needs FAA approval?

Thanks,
Max,

Sorry just getting back with you. Got the Super Commander up and going and just relisted it today on Aero Trader.
I hope things are well with you.

Jim
I have been a pilot since 1983 and I have enjoyed a Carrer in aviation since 13 years of age. Starting out helping pilots washing their airplanes for the dry-off flights until I joined the US Army as a mechanic working on Chinook and Kiowa helicopters. After the Army is when I worked for and received my A&P and PPL. Since then it has been a life of adventure and fun interlaced a lot of work. I wouldn’t trade a minute of it for . . . . . . Well maybe a minute or two . . . LOL. You get my drift. I would love to fly in a Rockwell Commander Single engine airplane to check it out because I believe the airplane would fit my flying mission. I live in the Colorado Springs CO area and I would like to take a flight in a Rockwell Commander.
