Well at long last here we go! These have the same footprint as the original factory 115 wing root fairings, but have a more gentle radius. If any of you are interested in these, I'll be selling them as a “self-build” kit. They will not be available as finished parts, but as pieces that you will need to make into parts. They'll need to be trimmed, molded together, finished, and painted to match your airplane.

If this is something that you would like to tackle, you should first talk to your IA/AP to see if he will accept these if they are presented to him as owner produced parts. It might be helpful to tell him that there are no certified options, other than the ones that came with the plane when it was produced at the factory 40 years ago, or some that you might be able to dig up at a junkyard.

The main wings kit will include left and right leading edge pieces, top pieces, bottom pieces, and flap adjustment cover pieces. The horizontal stabilizer kit will include left and right leading edge pieces, top pieces, and bottom pieces.

My plan is to charge $500 for the main wing kit, and $250 for the horizontal stabilizer kit. I'd like to get a few people to commit to them, and perhaps be willing to pay in advance, so I can get an idea of how many to make. I expect to have them ready to ship by June.

Once again, I repeat, these are not finished parts, these are pieces. YOU will need to make these into parts. The part numbers for the parts you will be making these to replace are:

425004-1 L/H main wing & 425004-2 R/H main wing

435004-1 L/H horizontal stabilizer & 435004-1 L/H horizontal stabilizer

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Carl good work there.
Congratulations.

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Carl,
Congratulations
Very good work and the parts look great

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Nice Carl!
I'll be in for the wing fairings, I will ck with my mechanic and advise.
How many beers is the effort to install?

Re: Wing Root Fairings

I had them done by the factory 13 or 14 years ago. 5 knots, easy (for each fairing!)

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Nice Carl! How are they fastened?

I figure two 12 packs. One to drink while you're making and installing the parts, and one to celebrate never having to look at those crappy rubber things again.

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Carl Lee, you Rock Man! Excellent work! I am in for a complete set.

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Nice Carl. So as in any estimate, add 10% and that'll be two 30 packs then?

I have no idea? But, I'm hoping that by the time I'm 1/2 way through my 3rd beer it'll come to me - or I wont care!

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Carl,
My (78 114) seals are one piece with the gap in the rear. They 'gingerly' slide over the leading edges and taper to the rear before mounting. I have to admit mine have a more streamlined appearance? Don't know the origin / if they are factory or not??

If that's the case, I'm "all in". Probably wont get a damn thing done, but - who cares!

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Those look really nice Carl. I assume it is still going to be a split cowling? And the air inlets for cabin vents and air filter will come from? I know you said you were trying to streamline the design some.

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Carl, those look COOL!

Hi Scott,

Yes, it will be a two part cowling 95% identical to the original. They're going to be made as unfinished pieces. It will be up to the owner to make them into finished parts. The pieces don't have side scoops, so you will have to cut the scoops out of your existing cowl and mold them into this one.

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Looks great Carl! This fits the Hot Shot, correct? And you can ship tomorrow?

Re: Wing Root Fairings

The first set of wing root fairings are about to pop out of the molds! How long has it been since the last ones were produced - 15 years? If anyone wants a set, call or email before I moth ball them for another 15 years!

Re: Wing Root Fairings

Outstanding
This is one of the best things that can be done

Thank you
Carl

Re: Wing Root Fairings

I had the factory install them 13 years back.
5 knots ... per wing ... easy.

Well, maybe I am off a bit there, but I had all the fairings, including aileron and flap gap seals, and VGI's all installed at the same time, so it is impossible to sort out what impacted what and how much, other than to say that my stall speed went down substantially. I will measure that when I get a chance here. But WXbee was with me a few weeks back and I showed him how in a full power, clean, pull-up, she will not stall in any traditional sense. Just hangs and hangs and hangs finally, if you hold back long enough yoke-in-belly, you will mush down very slowly. That's it. Need to do that dirty, departure-style, and measure. Have not done that in years. Will report back!
