All Rockwell Commander owners are welcome to join for an European meet at Lista Airshow 24th and 25th July 2010. This is originally an Warbird Airshow, but there is a limited opening for fly-in arrivals. This year I have been able to arrange so that Rockwell Commanders have priority.
Should there be an interrest in combining this with real fjord and mountain flying, I can make a suggested followup route for the days after the airshow.
This requires that we become a group flying together. As a teaser for where we will fly google pictures of: Prekestolen, Hurrungane, Jostedalsbreen, Geirangerfjorden, Trollveggen.

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

The pictures are incredible. Would love to get there.

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

As the Icelandic CAA have just screwed up our trip over there with their crazy rules, are there any restrictions on non-IR pilots arriving in Norway?

If not, this may be a good alternative to the Iceland trip for those of us who cannot fly IR outside of the UK airspace.

Can you give me some information on VFR in Norway?

Where's Sven when you need him? :-)

There are no restrictions on VFR flight To/From Norway or within Norway as such. Every Year there are numerous VFR flights to Norway from all over Europe. The very liberal rules for flying up here makes it possible to fly deep in the valleys and fjords with several thousand feet of mountain ABOVE you. For the pilot looking for more of a challenge than flying over flat countryside Norway is the place. I am myself a instructor and can arrange some basic tutoring before we head into the mountains.
If we can gather a small group of Commanders then I can organize a scenic route really worth participating in.

Sounds like " Lets Fly Norway" to me.

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

Sounds good Martin, can we have some more details?

I'm up to speed on mountain flying in the Alps are there many differences?

I should be able to make this one, looking forward to it.

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

Hey Alex ... (in your spare time!) ... figure out how many gallons of Avgas it would take to get there and back from New York or where ever. Or maybe someone here knows and knows prices of fuel. man, I would love to do this.

If you have flown in the Alps, this will be similar. But flying in a fjord means that you are flying over seawater (saltwater) with 0 elevation whitle the mountains on both sides streches up to aove 7000 feet. You need to plan the climb, if you fly inwards a fjord because they suddenly stop and the terrain rises. Some fjords are so narrow that you cannot turn, but not to worry, with a little planning we can have some fantastic flights.

Commanders Meeting - Norway 2010
Here is my suggestion for now:
Fly-in to Lista Friday 23rd and/or Saturday 24th July. There will be a Hangar party on the Saturday. The theme is WWII/Vera Lynn/Glenn Miller. On Sunday after the Airshow we will proceed North into the Mountains and the bright summer nights. To fully explore the marvels of Nature we need 2-3 days of flying.

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

Martin,

Do you have a passinger or are you looking for a Co-Pilot? I have a lot of Hot Shot experience.

Life is a barrel of fun

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

Martin,

I'm a definite and I will be bringing my co-pilot, Malcolm, from the Iceland trip. What do we need to do to get booked in for this one?

By the way, we are in a 112B and max out at 11,000' on a hot day.

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

Does anyone have any off-forum contact details for Martin? Need some more info on boking the Norway trip but he seems to have gone quite, looks like he hasn't picked up his PM's for a few days.

I know I sound impatient but this looks like a great trip.

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

Hi, I'm interested in this. Can you give us an idea/the names of airfields we could visit (...North into the Mountains...) so that we can prepare for them?

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

Steve Roberts and i would like to come along too, but both have to be back for monday 26th, whats the chance of doing the fijord trip before the fly-in/

Hi Stratis.

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

Hi David! We need some details on the fjord trips, don't we?

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

This is what I have so far: I have made a plan to see the most well known and spectacullar fjords, mountains and glaciers. I have made it into a 3 day trip withing Norway.
To my knowledge the following have showed interrest:
G-BEPY - Lawrence Rippon 2 POB
D-EWAT - Stratis Scleparis
G-OLFT - David T 2 POB

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

What I need to know is if we shall plan the trip prior to or after the fly in at Lista Airshow.
Also I need to know how many people are planning to come as I will arrange for accomondation.
I will get good and cheap rooms two nights, including that at Lista. We will also have one a little more luxurious (commander friendly) hotel.
For Ken; " I'm sure you will be able to hitchhike with various commanders along the ride."

Re: Welcome to Norway, Lista airshow

The places I plan to visit is:
Kjeller Airfield, Røros Airfield, Værnes Airport, Molde Airfield, Sogndal Airfield, Bømoen Airfield, Lista Airfield
For scenery of where we will fly(Google):
Innerdalen, Sunndal, Innerdalen, Mardalsfossen, Trollveggen, Sunnmørsalpene, Geirangerfjorden, Briksdalsbreen, Hurrungane, Sognefjord, Nærøyfjorden, Hardangerfjorden, Folgefonna, Lysefjorden, Prekestolen.
