I belong to 100dollarhamburger.com (a very useful, cheap membership, BTW) and they recently took a poll of favorite airport restaurants around the country. In the midst of all of this brain damage about cracked spars, I thought it would be good to remember the fun side of flying. I culled that list and added 2 more that their readers said, "I can't believe you missed this one!" I put a copy on my cell phone so I could refer to it as I travel. These are supposed to be the best. Anyone have a great place to add? Please share and I will make an attachment in a couple of weeks and post, for those who want to travel with it, or use it for planning. I have been to 4 of these, but found there were another 5 or 6 that I have flown right over without ever realizing there was a great place right below me.

I've got two favorites:

94th Aero Squadron, Montgomery Field, San Diego,CA - KMYF
Waypoint Cafe, Camarillo Muni, Camarillo, CA - KCMA (Killer BBQ Tri-Tip!)

Sunriver Lodge in Sunriver, OR (S21) has already been mentioned, but I'll second the nomination!

HARRIS RANCH - Coalinga, CA 3O8: Been there many times. In fact, I'll be there on Fri and Sat. for an Angel Flight West social event we host there every year at this time.

Bethany's Airport Diner, Block Island, Rhode Island (BID). Lobster Benedict on oversized english muffin is a local fave.

Been there good atmospher, charm in decor and good food, well spaced out tables so was also able to get a post 5280 ft club flight! :)

There's a similarly nice Italian restaurant near LAX across Century Blvd with nice war birds in static displays.

Also been to a 99 Aero at CMH Columbus, OH

Been working my way through that list and didn't even know it!
So far have done the;
Tiki in Fort Pierce. -Recommended as above average.
Hard Eight in Stephenville. -Recommended as good (not great) BBQ
Southern Flyer in Brenham. Good atmosphere, fun, fifties theme. Food average. Get a shake, they are good.
Hanger Hotel Diner Everybody who was at the '08 flyin knows that one.

Got to add Lulu's at Gulf Shores. -Good food, live music, open air on waterfront, Jimmy Buffets sister's place.

I have to look back in my logbook to find the Starlight Resturant, somewhere in Kentucky if I remember correctly. That is good BBQ. Try the BBQ mutton, exceptional.

Will be trying Gastons in the near future.

Ian, you would be referring to the "Moonlight," KOWB, Owensboro, KY. Been there more times than I should admit. A Kentucky institution. Only a mile or so from the field, but a bit far to walk. They will come get you. Bring an empty stomach. Amazing BBQ buffet with all the southern extras. Typical day on the buffet has BBQ pork shoulder, beef brisket, pork ribs, beef ribs, chicken --both pulled and whole, mutton ... I am missing a few.

p.s. lulu's is excellent!

p.s.s. can we list Botsay's? That is one great cook there at that strip!

Hamknockers is great BBQ at Wakulla County (Panacea) FL 2J0 on the airport, of this grass field

Lunch buffet Florala, AL 0J4 in the FBO (located about halfway between Pensacola & Dothan get many military pilots for lunch buffet) menu varies daily put payment in bucket what ever you think

I can give kudos to DeNunzio's at Latrobe. Scott and I flew out there from Central Pa on a Sunday, after he made a pilgramage to Carlisle to see some band play. Food's always good there -- but it was a bit embarresing watching Mr. Sedam return over and over and over and over and over to the breakfast grill. Poor man ate enough to feed a large 3rd world country!!
