UK fly-in

I was just up in Dornoch over the New Year. I was wondering about a fly-in there and invite friends from elsewhere along as passengers if they are willing to make the trip?? Dornoch is a firm coastal grass strip (think hard packed fairway if you commit golf in your spare time). No fuel but spectacular scenery and very low landing fee.

Check out the Dornoch Castle hotel that has a most impressive selection of the highest quality single malts, sandy beaches alongside, Royal Dornoch golf course and others surrounding the airfield. Make it a week-end ?

Re: UK fly-in

Should add that the area benefits from a persistent Foehn effect with warmed dry air dropping down after crossing the mountains. Much appreciated by Andrew Carnegie who had a large property holding and successful, productive gardens nearby

UK fly-in

Splendid town and well worth the visit. The links are one of my favorites on the entire island. Beaches also a lovely place for a midnight dip in the North Sea. (After a wee dram or three of the fine single malt you mention) Don't ask how I know... Daft Yank.)

Re: UK fly-in

Rob, Happy New Year! I think you know I'd be in but I have the feeling it would be a rather lonely fly-in. Remember the outcry when we suggested having a fly-in outside of the UK last year, albeit about half as far as Dornoch from the majority of Commander owners.

It's a 3 hour nil wind trip from Sywell. I would suggest that instead of a fly-in which I suspect if anyone could be motivated to organise it, will probably be in the south again, that we have a fly-out and perhaps spend a few days in the highlands/islands. Perhaps there would be a few more takers for that?

Re: UK fly-in

Hi Lawrence, Happy New Year too. I'm up for anything really but something different would be good. Mull and the islands is good. Lot's of interesting stuff there and short fields to play with. Weston and a few jars in Dublin? How about our Dutch friends, would they like a few of us to come over ? I'm just keen to get something started.

Will be doing a trip up to Tromso this year but that's something like two five hour legs and a little more.

Re: UK fly-in

Depending on The date I would definitely be interested but ditto tot welcome everybody inthe lowcountries..

Re: UK fly-in

I would be happy to visit either Scotland or the Low Countries. Equally can arrange Kemble again if that is the preferred option. (the problem with the flying school was resolved and the school is now in much better located offices).

Re: UK fly-in

Is Holland still sticking to the installed ELT mandatory rule? I've avoided it since they forced me to install a most S transponder than told me to switch it off?

Personally, I'd like to go anywhere other than Kemble.

Re: UK fly-in

Hi Steven! that oil filler of yours should be a standard part. Tried it out this evening....no mess and it stores away clean too. Thanks
